The facility and living situations are adequate. Our mother went to rehab two weeks ago to recover from a Fall. She received adequate physio but did not seem to be challenged between therapy sessions.. The therapist seemed knowledgeable and engaging. Our mom enjoyed that time. The rest of the day .she was allowed to remain in her room all day and sat or laid on her bed. If she was meant to be getting strong again we believe there should have been more encouragement. She should have been walking in the hall not languishing in bed. I heard some complaints about the food but it seemed nourishing. My mother said her room was cold for several days and the CNA or laundresses could not find her robe. Now she has developed a cold. again not sure of the cause. They are in a petri dish environment. The biggest problem from our perspective is the lack of clear communication with family members especially when in our situation we are out of the area. My sister and I called total 3 times in a two day period and did not receive a call back. Never talked to a member of staff after 17 Nov. We were asking for medical info. We were trying to clear up the misunderstanding relayed by our mother to us and wanted to know the date of her release. In order to make travel arrangements. I never got that information ( my mother was released on 3 Dec) . We ( her daughters) specifically asked to be notified .in advance So that we could make the necessary work/travel arrangements to ensure our mom received our "in person" attention following the fall and necessary recoup period. This lack of courtesy was inconsistent with the initial orientation courtesies extended to us and made this transition back home unnecessarily trying and that has made our experience with Valley just average. Recommendation : set up a protocol for good a returning calls from family. And set up a better customer courtesy protocol for such calls. There is a customer services model which says "one bad feedback. negates all positive feedback." Strive for good feedback!

Valley Convalescent is a clean and airy facility with staff that really care. My visits eventually led me to see much of the building, including the basement and I was pleased with the organization and particularly the way the place is kept up. For me, the location is perfect in Watsonville. My experience with the management and the Director of Nursing Services is that they are attentive and really wish for the people who stay there to be well taken care of in every way. I have been there many times and I would not hesitate to recommend Valley Convalescent.

The director of nursing is very unprofessional. She is just rude and superficial. It is sad that someone like her is in charge while they have many great caring staff. You should be firm about your loved one's care because the director of nursing only sees him/her as a source of money.

I would not consider Valley Convalescent Hospital as a pleasant place, but my father has not complained. The rooms are sufficient. It is a fairly large place, and it is quite busy. The staff seems fine.

Being that my family and I were not familiar with nursing facilities we had a lot of questions and concerns about having my father there to recover from an illness. The manager of the facility was very unprofessional; she refused to give my father specific information in regards to his recovery and refused to provide him with his medical record. We became very concerned because we did not know anything in regards to his condition. The doctor who admitted him went only once to see him and my father was there for a total of one month. Overall the facility fell far below our expectations and we decided he would be in better care somewhere else. Anybody who is considering this facility should not be misled by their supposed five star rating because from personal experience management was unprofessional and violated my father's medical rights.

This facility is very bright and airy. It is a very safe and clean facility. The surrounding neighborhood is in one of the better areas in town. The staff is friendly and energetic and their interaction with the residents is very patient and kind. The area is quiet and peaceful both indoors and out. There is a huge living room area with a big window where residents can hang out and enjoy some sunlight and a view of the passing cars and people walking by. The residents are friendly and the staff is caring and warm. The residents here seem as happy as they can be considering where they are. I enjoy talking to some of them and hearing their stories from long ago. There is opportunity for daily exercise for those interested. The food that was served for lunch looked appealing and not like typical "hospital food" which I was expecting to be served. It appeared to be very balanced and nutritious. All in all this was a nice place to visit.
