Dear Oakview SNF Team,
I am writing this letter to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who took care of my father, Lauren, during his stay at Oakview. Thank you so much for the help, care, and love that you gave to my father. It meant so much to him, and to me.
He came to you almost 3 years ago, during some of your, and his most trying times, yet you thrived and made him feel part of the family and cared for. Despite the difficult times, the thought of my father being in the hands of a loving and caring staff brought us comfort and peace. Your unwavering commitment to providing him with the best possible care, even in the face of the pandemic, was truly remarkable.
Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten. The way you attended to his needs and comforted him in his final days will always be remembered with gratitude. I will always be grateful for the love and care you showed to my father, and for the support you provided to my family during this difficult time.
We are saddened with his passing, but he had a great life, 96 ½ years. So please accept my sincerest thanks for everything you did to make a difficult situation more bearable. Your actions truly demonstrate the best of humanity, and I am honored to have been a part of the community that you serve.
With heartfelt thanks,
Larry

I can't begin to say enough good things about Oakview Health Center! The Staff is compassionate, intentional, and attentive. The environment is lovely, clean, and provides ample space for patients. The care is top notch! Every staff person I have interacted with from admissions, to medical techs, social worker and the Director of Nursing have gone out of their way to help us navigate the process of moving my father into skilled nursing. They seriously have thought of everything (visits from docs, dentists, optometrists even podiatrists). They have lovingly walked us through this process of transition. This is an EXCELLENT place for elderly to recover from surgeries or received skilled nursing care.

I always heard and known about the great reputation of Oak view for skilled nursing. Had to put it to test unfortunately due to my moms femur break and needing 8 weeks of skilled nursing. I could not have been more pleased and happy with the excellent care and compassion given to my mom (age 85) ! (and while my dad (96 years old) went everyday too to visit her, he was shown the kindness too).My mom was sad to leave after the great care, and kindness, and professionalism. Their admissions process was great and thorough, and I felt so confident with my mom being there. Nurses and PT were fantastic, admission, social services, activities, hair salon, reception. My mom felt like a superstar and seen and heard. Their food was delicious and terrific too! In choosing the right care you want to feel good and confident in your choice and I could not have been more pleased! Oh and cleanliness of the areas, rooms and facilities were spot on, and the staff, nurses, etc. all wear masks so no issues. The communication between nurses, staff, and my family as I needed was good for all the extras I was needing for her care. They took care of various things that helped ease the stress off myself. The outside patios were wonderful too and rooms were good in size so no issues. Bottom line easily a five star rating and I can now affirming attest to the great reputation for great reason.

My mother was a resident of Oakview & University Village for 8 years. We are so grateful that she was able to live there. It's an amazing place - with amazing people. We highly recommend it to anyone considering moving to a senior living community. It's in a beautiful location with excellent staff, services & amenities. They really took excellent care of my Mom. She always felt safe, comfortable & content. And was stimulated with various activities & entertainment - and interaction with staff & residents. They offer various levels of housing & care...from independent living to assisted living to skilled nursing to memory care...all on the same beautiful campus. Thank You Oakview & UVTO for taking such great care of Mom! We are forever grateful.

My Mom was a resident of the Continuing Life Care Community at University Village and Oakview for almost 12 years, from age 87, when she was a fully independent spitfire until she was physically failing at age 99. I will forever be indebted to everyone at the community for how they welcomed and treated my precious mom and all her family and friends – their skill, commitment, warmth, environment, and loving care were unparalleled from day one.
Mom was initially reluctant to move to Oakview Assisted Living (in 2018), but after less than a week there, she was raving about the personal care she received, “It’s like being on a cruise ship. They take such good care of you, have lots of activities, and they’ll even bring you warm cocoa before bed.” When Mom finally had to move to Oakview’s Skilled Nursing Unit, every effort was made to first rehab her, and when that wasn’t successful, to make her feel as comfortable, safe, and cared for as if she were in her own home. The food was delicious and the room was light, airy, spacious, and cheerful. The clinical care team were compassionate, capable, and attentive, not only to Mom, but also to our family, answering questions lovingly and honestly. The staff also went out of their way to be attentive to all of our family and Mom's visitors.
Mom died more than 2 years ago, but when we returned to the LA area from the Midwest this summer, we were drawn back to visit Oakview because we had come to regard it as our family’s second home. We were greeted with hugs and love by staff members, just as though we were still part of the Oakview team. The grounds look as beautiful, clean, and new as they did the first day Mom moved to the community, and on the day of Mom’s passing when we hugged everyone goodbye. Because of our outstanding UV and Oakview experience, my husband and I are planning to join the Continuing Care company’s waiting list for when we are ready to make the move to a senior community. I can’t praise Oakview or University Village enough. Hats off especially to Jeannette, Maria, Evelyn, and Lisa, the best caregivers in the world.

My mom is a resident of Oakview and we are so impressed and grateful for the care they provide to her. She tells me often how kind everyone is to her. Her room is laid out very well with plenty of room to fit her needs and she can add some personal touches. The place is sparkling clean every time I have been in. The staff is responsive and easy to speak with. They really do try to accommodate my mom's needs and also her interests and food preferences. My mom loves the music activities they have and she really enjoys the newsletters they put out. The community has a hair salon, lovely landscaped patios, family lounge, activities room, library etc. The nurses, caregivers, activities staff as well as management all really do try hard and care about the residents.

My mother is a current resident in the skilled nursing division of Oakview, after living independently. This has not been an easy transition for her, but she frequently tells me how much her caretakers try to make her comfortable and happy. She also praises the chef for creative (and large!) meals. I appreciate that the friendly staff is responsive to my calls and requests, especially meaningful because I cannot visit her in her room to observe, due to county Covid restrictions. That said, we have frequent visits outside and now, in a special family room. After her initial placement, there was one medical prediction (not from Oakview) that she would not live much longer. That was a few months ago, and she has lived to celebrate her 100th birthday (quite festive, thanks to the Oakview staff), and seems to be thriving. The facility and grounds are gorgeous; rooms are spotless, warm, and inviting, and she can add her own pictures and other personal items. Activities are offered which she mostly declines, but she loves to FaceTime with me, thanks to a special staff person. Overall, I think Oakview is terrific because they help the resident feel cared for and important, so crucial when there are few choices left due to aging and ill health.

Oakview skilled nursing provided care for my mother for 19 months. The facility is beautiful and clean with both private and 2 person rooms. The staff is professional and caring, providing not only nursing skills, but also fun activities, various therapies, and social services. They became her family, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic, keeping the facility safe, yet making visits possible whenever allowed. My family will always be thankful to Oakview for the loving and personal care they provided, not only to my mother, but to us as a family.

My son and I arranged a visit with the physical therapist at Oakview to visit my wife who is recovering from a broken ankle. In view of the COVID lockdown, the staff was limited in their ability to accommodate us, but they all did a great job. We had never been inside Oakview before.
It was a wonderful experience. When we first entered my wife’s room, I was amazed at how livable it is. I had expected something stark, like a hospital room, but it was beautiful. It was private, and my wife’s personal possessions, like her hearing aids, little electronic clock, small bags of candy, telephone, pencil and paper, etc. were all within reach.
I can't emphasize enough how patient and responsive the therapists were in answering our repeated questions and in fulfilling our repeated requests to have my wife slide out of bed and move to either a wheel chair or to her walker.
The employees in the lobby were also extraordinarily helpful; when we arrived, they made themselves available to assist us in putting on the special face masks, rubber gloves, and big plastic clothing covers.
I truly feel that every person on the Oakview Health Center staff extended themselves to make us feel welcome. Perhaps that credit goes to the management as well.

My father spent the last 2 years of his life tin the Skilled Nursing Unit - I have nothing but nice things to say about the care he received. We live close by, so someone from the family was there nearly everyday. The care he received was exceptional - he even loved the food - HIGHLY recomended.

Facilities beautiful and clean, everyone friendly, daily patient care consistent. But this is a "don't ask, don't tell" administrative environment. Only medical information about an immediate situation will be proactively shared. On everything else you must figure out what questions to ask, otherwise you will just be informed of things after the fact. Insist at the first care plan meeting that you be given the occupational/physical therapy plan in writing as well as a copy of the meeting document you must sign. Also closely track how therapy is going because administration can yank Medicare coverage with only 48-hour notice if they decide progress isn't being made. We received a call out of the blue on a Fri. at 4:00 and only knew we had a right to appeal when we insisted on seeing this decision in writing. We then only had between 11:00-12:00 on Sat. to file the appeal before the deadline. Medicare granted the appeal. Document and double-check everything that is told to you.

The facities are beautiful , however the level of care is leaves a lot to be desired. The head of nursing is incompetent, the admission administrator is a nightmare to deal with, and the LVN, CNA and aides do not have a good understanding that skilled nursing is just that....SKILL!
On the esthetic side, it is by far the loveliest facility in the area by far. The common areas are beautiful and the rooms are spacious and provide privacy. Well thought out.

What I like best about Oakview is the location. It is a very comfortable property with gardens and walkways. They have assisted living on one side and skilled nursing on the other side. The facility itself is very high end and very nicely done. It is also very pleasant. It offers different types of units for their residents. Their staff is very considerate, kind and attentive. They have onsite staff as far as nurses. They also have a doctor in the property 24 hours a day.

Layla is my Black Labrador Retriever, Therapy dog. We have credentials to visit living facilities, and we've been doing this for the last eight years. Oakview is a facility that we frequently visit, and we enjoy coming to this facility. University is a 3-part complex, which includes retirement
homes, assist living, and full service facilities. It's set near the Cal Lutheran University campus
in Thousand Oaks. The staff is excellent and the patients really enjoy seeing our dogs each month.
I believe that this facility has earned the 5-stars that I awarded to them.

Visiting my beloved aunt at this facility was a warming experience. She was happy and active, the grounds were scenic and the evening meal was a lively experience. It was a delight to see such active living in the golden years.
