We toured Brookdale Chanate. It was very clean and it did not smell; those were my top priorities when I was looking. The rooms were a little bit older and a little bigger, which was nice. They have a game room, a TV room, and an exercise room. The staff that gave us the tour was very nice and knowledgeable. She was wonderful. However, some of the rooms are very far away from the dining hall and some of the main activities, so if they're not very ambulatory, it's a long walk, and that may not work for every person.

My concern about Brookdale Chanate is that it's in a fire hazard area because it's right down the street from me, so I know that. Right across the street from them is all that vacant county property, and there could end up being a huge build-up there. The facility was great. I liked all the trees and the grounds. The people were nice. I liked the rooms. It's just that I'm not sure about the location. The staff was a nice and personable woman. She was informative. They have entertainment. It's an older facility, but it looked well-kept. It was pretty homey.

I liked the setting at Brookdale Chanate. It could be a very relaxing setting for the right person. But I would say their layout is confusing to me and the place is old. There are around six different levels in the building. The property sits on a hill. So you enter on one level, then you have to go upstairs to another level, and then you can walk upstairs to another level that's level with the parking lot but up on a hill. The rooms were darker and the framing on the windows were dark wood, the door was dark wood, and the closet doors were dark wood. There's outdoor space for sitting and a dining room. The staff who gave us the tour was very nice.

My mom has moved into Brookdale Chanate. It was welcoming and super inviting for her, and she was able to bring her dog. She's on the bottom floor, so she has a backyard. It's extremely clean. Both the residents and the staff are extremely friendly and very welcoming. The staff is very accommodating. They have care exercises every day. They have a walking group, bingo, arts and crafts, and they do have some entertainment. They do celebrate the holidays. They did a spring fling and a Mother's Day event; it was very impressive. We were able to eat there, and the food was delicious. They have a library, a game room, a laundromat, and a garden area. That was another thing, we were impressed by their garden area. Their activities coordinator was really outgoing and super friendly.

What stood out the most at Brookdale Chanate was the setting with the redwoods and the ambiance. The people there seemed happy. The vibes were good. The staff who assisted us was wonderful. She's great. She was warm, friendly, loving, supportive, caring, funny, and beautiful. The food was good. We just had one meal there. They gave me a whole sheet of activities. They have a walking group, they have exercises in the morning, and they have music. They have a hair salon, too. They have chair exercises at 10 a.m. and a walking club at 11 a.m. They were having a birthday party there when we went. Then at 2 p.m., there's Flex Your Brain. There's a library, a dining room, a patio, and a private dining room. It's got a lot of light. It feels like a ski lodge, and it feels like a cabin in the mountains a little bit.

I had an in-person tour of Brookdale Chanate. They were very welcoming and friendly. It was a very personalized tour. The residents seemed very engaged and happy. They self-reported that they enjoyed living there, enjoyed the food, and made friends easily. It's a medium-sized facility. It's beautifully set in a natural setting among redwood trees with walking paths. The rooms were average in size and had a nice open layout. The studio was exceptionally nice for a studio because the area for the bed was set aside in a little alcove, which made it more private.

I would give high marks for Brookdale Chanate. I liked it very much. It had a very nice environment and had a good feel to it. It was not brand new, but it was kept up to date. They have a very nice dining room. It was a beautiful space. They have a beauty salon, and they're pet-friendly. It was in a beautiful location. The rooms were nice and spacious. It had a lot more character to it and felt like a special place.

I toured Brookdale Chanate. The lady who gave me the tour here also gave me the tour in Windsor; Karen was very informative, and she was very helpful. There were no activities, there did not seem to be people about. I guess they're all staying in their rooms because of the COVID situation. I don't think they wanted people mingling about. It was a very nice place, and most similar to most of the places as far as the amenities went. It was well kept, but again, it was a distance problem for my brother.

Brookdale Chanate is the one that looks like you're at a cabin in the woods, it's big. It was a neat-looking place from the outside, but inside I didn't like it. The community room and dining are all just up in that one part like the dining room is up there on one edge. If you're down here in room 210, that's a bit of a travel to get to the dining room. There are elevators, but it's like three floors, and the one in the back has a fourth floor. The way it was spread out and the way it was laid out didn't work for us. I think it would work well for people who just didn't need assisted living, people who just were independent living. Because they were just in a natural setting, they didn't have as many areas to sit outside. They had the one area when you first walked in that was nice, but after that, I didn't see anything else. I thought the room was good and it had a deck, so it had a place that mom could go out. Their menu is kind of a little more eclectic, they have Moroccan baked fish, this kind of thing, so it sounds like the food's a little more flavorful. They also had a little deli that you could go to, instead of the big dining room during the day. If you didn't go at lunchtime, you could go at two o'clock and get a sandwich, burger, or veggie burger. That was cool. The person that helped us was good. I liked her. We didn't meet any other staff. She didn't introduce us to anyone, but she was knowledgeable.

We were able to get into Brookdale Chanate. We were able to go in and see a room and meet somebody at that facility. The room was nice and the tour was nice. The facility looked beautiful. The room was larger than what we ended up getting for my mom, but financially she couldn't afford to have a 1-bedroom and a living room. We needed to move her into something more economical. We saw the dining room area. At the time we visited, they were just getting ready to open up their dining room again. The facility looked very homey. There were lots of dark woods. What we saw there was a very nice older facility. They had not resumed activities just yet. They were getting ready to resume those just like they're getting ready to open a dining room. It looked like a really nice facility and everybody was very accommodating and very nice. The staff was very kind and very helpful. The library was beautiful. They had an outdoor area where once things open up, apparently families could use those for barbecue. It looked nice.

My mother has been at Brookdale Chanate. It's terribly expensive, but it serves its purpose. It's generally been a positive experience, but the cost just keeps ratcheting up. We started out at about $3,100, now it's over $4,200 a month, and she's fairly independent. It's not like she needs any additional care. They have a bus/limo type service if she wants to go to the store or to church. They have group activities, they serve three meals a day, and they do your laundry and basic housekeeping.

Brookdale Chanate is my mom's favorite. They have a very pleasant sitting area with rocking chairs, a secluded garden, an upscale dining area, and they have patios and balconies where you can do individual gardening. They have activities, transportation to medical visits and shopping places.

Brookdale Chanate is beyond fabulous, and we just really lucked out that they've been so sensitive and considerate, and they bent over backwards to help us with every minor detail that we needed help with. The facility is extremely clean, windows are everywhere, and it's open and spacious. My dad is in a small, furnished apartment. They're updated and modern, and they have everything like church services, jewelery making, gardening, lectures from a local college professor, movie nights, and Happy Hour. They're very encouraging of family members to feel comfortable there, and at the same time for those families who live far away from their loved ones, they make sure that their attendants are very attentive to the residents.

The apartments were beautiful and spacious at Brookdale and had large bathrooms and an adequate kitchen area. The dining room was absolutely gorgeous. The people were friendly, generous with their time, and wanted to assist me in any way possible.

Brookdale Chanate was very nice and in a wooded area. The staff was friendly. They had a nice dining room and library. It seemed like they had a lot of different activities. The rooms were quite nice, good sized, and clean. They had music and all sorts of things. The staff was very nice. What I liked most about it was the feel of the place. It felt very homey, and we really enjoyed that aspect of it.

Brookdale Chanate was my favorite. The staff was very nice, very pleasant, and very helpful. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. They invited us for lunch, and the food was really good. The dining room was like a restaurant. They had people that waited on you. It was very nice, and the people were friendly. They're dated, but seemed much less dingy than the other place we visited. It was a very comfortable dated look. I like the outdoor environment -- it is surrounded by redwood trees.

I liked the little rooms that they would give you at Brookdale Place Chanate. It was like a two-bedroom and a living room. It was small, but doable. I liked the fact that they had lots of activities all the time because I was normally an active person. The people I met were all very nice, accommodating, and friendly. Everybody looked nice and dressed nicely, you know. They didn't look like homeless people or anything. They all seemed to be happy there and liked what was going on -- like having their meals served to them and everything. I thought it was a great idea for me, but then I just couldn't afford that. They had games and different stuff like that. Plus, they had an art class where they did water coloring, I thought that was very interesting, and I would be very interested in doing that. They were writing about their history. It looked nice and clean, with nice furniture and everything. The lady that took me around was dressed nicely. She was very friendly and seemed to be very knowledgeable. Any questions I asked, she knew it, and she introduced me to different people. We even looked around an already occupied two-bedroom place of a man and a woman.

My mom has at Brookdale Chanate for a year. I visited several other local facilities before she moved here, but what stood about Chanate was the intimacy that only a smaller facility can offer. Certainly you can find "fancier" places, but she is so comfortable with the smaller scale. It is easy to get to know the staff, and the peace of mind I have knowing she is happy and cared for is beyond measure.

We were able to place my mother-in-law in Brookdale at Chanate. Our whole experience of her being there has been really good. The people have been very nice in dealing with us and helping us out every step of the way. If we have any questions, they are very helpful as well. The first impression I got about the place was physically it looked very nice. They have a lot of activities like field trips, nail painting, and exercises. They come in and clean her apartment and help her out when she showers. She has been there for only eight days. I really don't have any complaints. We wanted to visit her often, so the closer the facility, the better.

I toured Brookdale Place at Chanate. It appeared old to me but that may just be because the redwood shingle look doesn't appeal to me. I realized after I got there that this facility does not have a memory care, which I needed for my dad, who is living in another assisted living. I was walked down a long hallway with no windows to a room at the end of the hall. It had a patio door which lead outside to a hillside. This is when I definitely knew that I was in the wrong place. After I left, I talked to a couple friends who have parents living there. They are happy but not thrilled. Not enough caregivers for the number of residents. Not a lot of interesting activities. Parking was bad.

I loved Brookdale Place of Chanate because it was my kind of style. It was kind of a mountain lodge, and it was beautiful. The restaurant was setup so that the food was fresh, made right there on-site, and they took pride in that. They had lots of choices. They had these big rocking chairs out front that everybody would go sit in, and they provided a comfortable time for social exchange. However, though they had chairs sitting around, they were not as inviting as the other one I visited. It was not as much of a nice, welcoming place to hang out outdoors.

We have no complaints for Brookdale Place of Chanate. They have plenty of activities, though my dad is not really interested in them. The facility is a little superior in terms of its finish, look, and feel. The landscaping is well-maintained. They renovate at the level of replacing fixtures and floors, and so it has the feel of a first-rate place. It is not inconvenient for a periodic visit, but it is not conducive to visiting daily if you are a Sacramento person. He actually has a one-bedroom, and it has a sink, a refrigerator that is pretty much full size, and a fairly extensive bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate bath, so that one-bedroom is certainly roomy and well planned. It certainly is a very comfortable place. There is always a registered nurse at the facility, so it has a much higher level of on-site care.

I would give Brookdale Place of Chanate a top rating with the services that they have, the information, the staff, their building, as well as their people. We had lunch there and they offered healthy choices. People were active and visiting each other. They don’t encourage people to stay in their rooms and rot away. They have a lot of activities and they have nursing staff on duty all the time. We were interviewed by the nurse and by the administrator. I found the whole process of our visit very uplifting.

My daughter chose Brookdale for me. The staff is very good and I liked the food. I go to the exercise class every day but I’m power chair bound so I don’t take advantage of the amenities. I liked that they have a beauty parlor.

The living environment is nice at Brookdale Place at Chanate. I have an apartment with a tiny yard in the back which is nice because I could walk my dog out there. But they just have some staff members that I don’t particularly like because for some reason they irritate me. With regards to the activities, they have daily exercise class and they have bus trips that take people out on outings or to casinos for a couple of hours. They also take the residents once to month to restaurants where they have a nice dinner. Every day here is good, I just wish the food was better.

After visiting several facilities, we chose this one. Staff is attentive and caring and really care about the residence. the facility is beautifully located among trees and landscaping. Outdoor areas are shaded and raised garden beds. Smaller main building with many amenities that keep it more personal. Dining and food was superb. Mom, 90 years young, is loving it!

My mom moved into Brookdale in Sept. '11 and it was the best thing she had done for herself in years. Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in the summer and my sisters and I knew she would eventually need care that we wouldnt be able to provide. Brookdale holds a Hospice waiver which allowed the wonderful people from Sutter Hospice to care for mom in her last months of life. The location is beautiful. Mom's unit allowed for her dog to live with her with a small patio yard. The facility is clean and the staff was great. The Director, Scott, was the most amazing person. My family wasnt sure what to expect but he made mom's (and our) transition into the facility a good one. He is caring and thoughtful. Mom was still ambulatory when she moved in and found that without the stress of living alone in a house that was too big, she was able to come and go as she pleased, loved that someone else cooked and did the dishes for her, the food was good and she was able to be social without the pressure of making friends fast. Her apartment was cleaned for her and her laundry done weekly. She had the freedom to get her hair done when she wanted, go on trips Brookdale sponsored, visit with family in the privacy of her apartment, and have fun. She said that she was not sure about moving but after she was settled, we all agreed with her that we wished she would have done it sooner. Mom died in November and we miss her every day. We are so grateful that she was at Brookdale during the last part of her life. Because the daily tasks of life were managed by Brookdale, it allowed us all the time we had to focus on our relationship with and our love for mom.

When I first drove up to the Brookdale facility I was unsure, but as soon as I walked through the doors I was welcomed by friendly staff which put my nerves at ease. As I went to meet my close family friend of years I noticed the homey touches they had. They had pictures of loved ones in some of the hallways and everything seemed very clean. I met my friend in the dining room and had chicken with mashed potatos and suprisingly the food was pretty tasty. They even let you have an array of desserts to choose from. After our meal my friend showed me his own room which was overlooking a nice garden full of colorful flowers. He told me it was always kept clean and whenever they needed anything all they had to do was call. After going to Brookdale I was pleasantly suprised and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a senior assisted living home.

I've referred patients to Brookdale, and they've been very happy with it. It's a high-class facility that's much more about hospitality than nursing. They have both independent living and assisted living, and in the assisted living part, they provide assistance for bathing, hygiene, grooming, dressing--but not much care beyond that. Other pros: Good food that's provided in residents' apartments or as restaurant service Good activities from 9am to 4pm, including gardening games, baking classes, etc. Full-service barber and beauty shop on site Nice extras, like celebrations dinners and cocktail hour Nicely maintained property, with beautiful gardens and walkways Cons: It's in a remote area, near Santa Rosa, so getting around can be problematic (though they do provide transportation)

I have been to this facility many times. It's well located, in central Santa Rosa "“ close to lots of shops. And Sutter Hospital is only a few blocks away, although a new hospital is being built in a different location. The facility itself is very pretty, nestled in the trees. There are some nice outside areas, good for walking. And the rooms are nice, though the feel is a little more institutional than some facilities. There's a nice dining room, and a nice living room with a fireplace. My sense of the staff, from what I've seen, is that they're pretty good but not excellent. They're not quite as attentive as I've seen at some other facilities. The management recently changed to Brookdale, so things could change in the coming months. They have scheduled outings and activities there which are nice. The residents who do best here are pretty high-functioning. It's not as well suited to dementia patients"”and the management recognizes that. If someone needs a higher level of care they will recommend that and appropriately help facilitate a move to another facility.
