We toured a number of facilities, and they seemed adequate. There wasn't anything dreadful. One that we really liked and looked to be a great deal was Gordon Manor in Redwood City.
They communicated really well. We had a lovely tour, and they had a beautiful outdoor area. They seemed to have a very nice handle on all the residents and how things were going, so we were very impressed with that.
The actual rooms were very small though, and I don't know how they would have handled our aunt, who is very active and very problematic with her dementia. I think they would have done fine. We had one tour and were very impressed, but once we found another facility we liked, we knew that that was the better choice.
The whole facility is memory care. We talked on the phone with them, and then we took a tour. The tour and the staff that we met seemed very professional and very knowledgeable, so that was good. The rooms were very small, which was one of the concerns we had. The actual overall facility was built from something else, and they did a good job for what it was. There's a huge garden in the back that the residents are allowed easy access to. It was a huge plus for our aunt, who loves to walk outside. Most places, including where she is now, do not have anything on the outside or access to a beautiful garden. It's one of their big, big pluses for me.
They were fully staffed, and it was full of residents. There were all kinds of (in the hour and a half or so that we were there) activities going on in the common room. They were also setting up for lunch. They were doing other things and taking people to different places. There were lots of activities.

I had an in-person tour of Gordon Manor. The staff that did the tour was very thorough. It is a nice building. I guess a lot of people donate furnishings to the place, so it had kind of your antique store look, which was kind of cool. It was clean. It was a nice little place, and the people there were very nice. It has a homey feeling to it. There's a lot of nice outside patios. They even have a chicken coop in there. The staff was very nice and answered all my questions. He was a good guy. The dining room looked clean, had tables set up for people, and had long windows too. They have an activities hall, which they do all that kind of stuff in it. They have a separate dining room area and an outdoor area where they have activities as well.

My mother moved into Gordon Manor. She's in memory care. They treat everyone like family. It's a very caring community. They have wonderful services and great food. They keep communication lines open. I've been there when they've served the meals. The lunch and dinner are three-course meals, and the food looks fabulous. The staff is wonderful, very caring, and compassionate. The facility is spacious and well-maintained. The residents can go in and outside as they please, and they allow pets there. It's a very nice environment.
They do exercise every morning, they have morning activities, whether it's bingo or music coming in, and they do arts and crafts. They always have something going for the residents to keep them busy. Everything's inclusive for the price. They don't charge additional fees. It's worth it. I've been in the dining room when they eat. They're giving morning and afternoon snacks in addition to the three full meals.

Our experience with Gordon Manor has been very good. They welcomed Mom and really integrated her into their community. The facility is beautiful. The staff so far has been very attentive and has given us a lot of time. They're patient and they made us feel like we were the only people that mattered. It's very personalized. It's a good situation. It's all dementia and Alzheimer's care. They grow some of their own food there. They actually have beautiful gardens and they have chickens and lots of lettuce. They also have quite a few citrus trees. We are very pleased with them. The second you walk in, there's a huge white board with all kinds of activities and the doors are open to the garden. It's just so much better than where she was at. It's lovely and they move the residents all around the facility throughout the day with different activities and different events. It's much more lively and they keep them busy.

My mother who has Alzheimer's has now been at Gordon Manor for a year. The facility is always clean with no foul smell, the staff is genuinely engaged and show great care for all of their residents and they have also done a consistently good job of keeping me informed of any issues that have arisen. I visited 5 other care facilities prior to choosing Gordon Manor and am very happy with my choice.

Gordon Manor is very homey. It is on one level, so it is less institutional-looking. It is in a good location close to where we live, so that’s nice, too. I haven’t placed my loved one in there yet. Their rooms are basic. Because my loved one has Alzheimer’s, they will put one of those braces on his ankle, so if he tries to go out, it will alarm them. My impression of this facility is a good one.
