My father was a resident there for a few years. He passed away on December 22nd. I was denied visitation rights the day before, December 21st. I have spoken with Arizona department of Health services, so I knew the visitation rights. I got a Covid test and I was negative. The owners Zelma and her son Mark said they won’t let me see my father that day was because he was sleeping and they did not want to wake him up. But really my dad was dying because that day. I had a talk with my father’s social worker Joanna from Harmony hospice and she told me that my father was transitioning and dying. She did nothing to help me see my father. The owners Zelma and her husband denied me visitation rights due to other circumstances. I had to call and make a report to Arizona department of Health and adult protective services because my father was falling a lot and nothing was done getting done about it. When I would bring this up to Zelma she was very unprofessional and ignored my request. Zelma nor Harmony hospice notified me about my father‘s passing and the most devastating thing anybody can do is not let anyone see their loved one before they pass away under any circumstances. It’s all false advertising. There is no home-cooked food, no activities, no outings. The residents stay in their room until it’s time to come out and eat. It’s a sad place.

Helen and her husband Sonny have been in the care business for quite some time, and it shows with how they run their facility at North Alamo street. In addition to their Care Home there, they also host a certification school in a separate outside room where they hold classes for caregivers and Care Home Manager certification. They are always willing to make accommodations for their guests as well as their students, and the residents there all looked healthy and care-free. Despite the busy atmosphere, they are genuinely friendly outgoing people who believe in the golden rule. Whenever I would visit, I saw them treat everyone with the same level of concern and warmth, regardless of what they were there for. I sincerely hope they stay in business for years to come, and that some of their attitude rubs off on their students.

Hummingbird Manor is run by very caring, genuinely kindhearted people. Whenever I would visit, the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Niadas would always find time to talk to me, and were very helpful and outgoing. Even though they owned and managed another home nearby, and hosted a Caregiver/ACH Manager instruction and certification class in the home at Alamo Street, they always had cheerful attitudes and enjoyed company. There was always something good cooking when I visited, and they spared no expense on their clients, who all looked well cared for. They were completing renovations on a new activity room that included a private visiting area for the relatives and friends of their residents. They believe in treating their seniors with respect, and helping others. The place is homey, very clean, and well run, with an emphasis on good care for their charges. Parking is sometimes a bit of a problem, as they have visitors arriving at most times, but that was never a worry, as they are in a good neighborhood.
