Butterfield was very expensive. It had a very nice dining facility, they have separate cottages, and then they also have a self-contained hotel-like setting on the property. The food was excellent; they had a great chef. The big problem I found with that is you pay a pretty exorbitant amount just to go in there, and then you still pay quite a bit monthly. The initial investment is never returned to your family upon your demise.

When I visited the facility the staff was very friendly and helpful. They answered all my questions and were very courteous during the tour. The rooms were warm, homey, quiet, and clean. The food smelled good, although I did not eat anything during my visit. I did visit with a few of the residents and they seemed happy and content with their surroundings. I would feel comfortable having my mother there. I feel that she would be in good hands and in a place where they would care about here and her well-being.

The facility is absolutely beautiful. It is comprised of apartments and stand-alone homes. The one-bedroom apartments were equipped with a full-size refrigerator, stove and oven, microwave, and sink. The bathroom is equipped with a sink, toilet, and full shower/tub combo. Staff cleans the rooms once per week, including vacuuming. There is a weekly recycling collection and laundry service available to residents. The apartments are equipped with emergency pulls, which will prompt CNA / RN response at any time of day or night. The facility itself has a beautiful lodge, a library, a formal sitting room with a chandelier and fireplace. The main building has small gathering rooms throughout it, a bistro area with pub-tables, televisions and a refreshments station, personal mailboxes and outgoing mail receptacle, and a miniature convenience store. The dining room is expansive, with three large sections. The food is served buffet style, and always has a wide variety of delicious foods. Staples include soups, a salad bar, a bread bar, and a fresh fruit bar. The staff is usually very friendly. The tables are always covered in linens, with cloth napkins, glass goblets, and nice table decorations. There are frequent festivities, outings, and recreational activities available to residents. Overall, the assisted living center of Butterfield Trail Village is very lovely, and a very nice place to visit.

We have been very, very satisfied with this facility. The best part is that the residents themselves are very actiively involved in the running of the community life. They volunteer in many areas: recycling, gardening, library, community, ............ They also are actively involved with the decisions of the facility and how it is run: they have a voice. The only "heads-up" that I would give is that it is independent living to health care (nursing home). There is no in between of having full time live in help. Personally, that would have been a better option for us due to our situation -- but that was a situation we didn't foresee when we were picking a place in the beginning.
