My grandmother has been in The Neighborhood at Sheffield for two weeks now. So far, it has been amazing. The room that she was placed in has so many amenities. It is incredible to see that she will have her own little kitchenette area, and she will have her own room. It is a nice living area, as well as a beautiful view of the courtyard. It is just incredible.
The thing I like the most about the community there is the quality of the people. The administrator showed us around, and everybody had a smile on their faces. I didn't see anyone in a bad mood or in a bad attitude. Everybody seemed grateful for the staff that was there. They seemed well fed and taken care of. It was really incredible to see such a great home feeling of a community.
Everything there seemed amazing. They showed us the laundry room where their laundry is taken care of, and they have state-of-the-art machines. It is nice to see that there's nothing outdated or worn out. They seem to take very good care of their equipment. We actually got to meet with the maintenance man, and he seemed topnotch. He seemed like he really knew the facility, and he knew the ins and outs of the place. He seemed to know absolutely everything about the rooms. It was fantastic. I think the maintenance and the care of the facility is topnotch.
The dining area was gorgeous. It had big bay windows all the way around, so there was a lot of natural light. The tablecloths are not plastic. They are not cheap stuff. They actually have tablecloths, and everything matched perfectly. It was like walking into an elegant dining room versus an assisted living dining room. It was not something you would see that they just throw out for the elderly to just eat at and move along. They really take a lot of care. They fold their napkins. It was truly elegant.
They have a massive activity room, where they try to get the community together almost every day. We talked to the activities coordinator at the facility. He was extremely friendly. He actually walked my grandmother around for a while, as we took a look at the rooms to decide which one we wanted. Their specific room that they have for activities (they have about three of them in that facility) has games like boardgames and card games. They have yard games when they have a good weather. They have trivia games for mind exercises, and they have physical exercise. They have their own physical workout room. They even have a sewing and knitting room for the residents there. I have no other word than topnotch. It's truly amazing, and I'm so happy that my grandmother has a place like this.
We're not a wealthy family, and the administrator knew that we would be struggling a little. So she actually called her boss and got us an incredible price to start out, so that it wouldn't hurt us as much until we got everything settled, solved the selling of our home, and all of that.

I have a sister and she is in an assisted living called The Neighborhood at Sheffield. It's nice. She likes it. She's got dementia, but she can still do things for herself. She's in the early stages. They have games, and she likes them. She got a bedroom, a little living room, and a little kitchen combination type. They can have a microwave in the room. She got it fixed up pretty and really neat.
They have changed hands since she has been there. They're painting it, they're sprucing it up. When I was out there the other day, they had been working on it, painting it, for the last month or longer. They have activities. They have bingo. My sister likes to go and play bingo. They play bridge. Also, they have a movie night. They have a room set up where a lady comes and fixes their hair, although my sister doesn't go there. My other sister comes and gets her and takes her to her regular hairdresser. They got a bus. They might go to one church one Sunday and they may take them to another place. With my sister, my other sister goes to pick her up and takes her to church with her.
My sister has been there for five years now. You may call her up and she forgets that you called her. But she can go back to something that happened 10 years ago and she can tell you all about it. She still knows everybody. She forgets sometimes to go up there and eat. My sister or I call up there and say, 'Did you go and eat today?' 'No, is it time to go?' and 'Yes, it's time to go to eat.' Or they call her room and tell her it's time to eat. They kind of watch out for her.

My mother likes Morningside of Sheffield because they seem to have more activities going on. But the community actually rejected her for assisted living, because they don't do memory care. Tanya was the lady who gave us the tour, and she's an extremely nice lady. The appearance is not just as nice as the one we picked. They have a private dining room, like a family dining room. You can see the dining room right there when you enter the place. They also showed us the calendar of activities which seemed quite full, and they post them on the wall. It seems to me that the residents are very satisfied.

My mother has been in Morningside for several years now. Morningside has been very good at meeting and exceeding her everyday needs. They are so many activities for her to choose from. She can be as active as she wants or remain in her room to read and/or work puzzles, and paint. She has a room that opens to the courtyard which she enjoys by either sitting out on a comfortable day or enjoying the sites from inside her room. I would highly recommend Morningside to any family.
