scared by lack of desency
I am overwhelmed by the anger I’m brought to at the most hideous, unacceptable and most inhuman treatment of humans I’ve ever witnessed! If your family member is telling you they are awoken at 2:30 AM to weigh, to change bedding, BELIEVE THEM! Food is horrific! COLD! Tasteless! My mother was there 6 days! SIX! Not ONCE were her clothes changed or did she receive a shower! Please please take your family members elsewhere! This facility needs to be SHUT.DOWN!

My mom was at Eastern Shore Rehabilitation Center for rehab. The staff was competent. The rehab facility is laid out like a hospital floor, but they were accommodating and placed my mother across form nurses' station because she had some difficulties with ambulation. That was good. Downstairs in the nursing home facility, there was a courtyard. We went out there and sat there for a few minutes with my mom. They had a beautiful chapel that overlooked the Mobile Bay. There also was a large recreational area that had places for reading books, doing arts and crafts, watching TV, and socializing. There were some activities there. She was there during her 30-day Medicaid allowed visit for rehab, and there were not activities and no amenities on the rehab floor. But she did get speech, physical, and occupation therapy while she was there, and those seemed to go well. My mom had a urinary tract infection, and I had to insist multiple times before I could get her tested and treated. I am a physician, so I find that irritating because I knew she was sick. I knew she had it, but they said she did not meet the criteria because she did not have a fever. Upstairs where my mom was in the rehab center, the staff was intermittently helpful. I don't know if they are understaffed, but there is plenty of time when there was nobody at the desk you could ask questions from. Initially I did not think that they were getting her up and bathing as they said they did, but she just was not bathed. After I brought it up, she was always clean. Downstairs it was just like a nursing home. Nothing really special except the chapel. It is a nursing and that is what it looked and smelled like. Nobody seemed to be ignored or in distress, but there were a lot of elderly people that were sitting around in their wheelchairs. The rooms were nice, big, and was comfortable enough. It was clean, but it just seemed like an average nursing home.

Perhaps this may be considered "defamatory", but it is nonetheless true. Day staff is good; food is subpar; response time is based on staff's convenience, not patient's need; and, the night staff is an absolute NIGHTMARE. You can do much better by shopping around. Don't let their smiling faces and humble postures fool you. Management is either willfully ignorant of what is going on, or blissfully ignorant, blinded by the money generated. Of course, as in most Rehab facilities, you have good workers that are professionals possessing truly compassionate hearts, as well as awful workers who could not care less, but, hey, it's a job. This facility has too many of the second category and they seem to excel in their indifference to their patients. It's your decision, but if advice means anything, I suggest you pass this one and keep looking. Case in point - Patient had several health issues that prevented being able to turn from side-to-side in the bed. Being in one position of hours on end caused pressure on the spine and hips, which caused intense pain. (Alabama Rehabilitation Guidelines require turning every two hours.) Calling an attendant to simply shift the patient to their side was usually ignored for up to six hours I would consider this totally unacceptable.

My mom moved into Eastern Shore Rehabilitation Center. It's close to where my father lives and pretty good compared to the others and looks better. The staff is good. I tasted the food, which was overcooked, soggy spaghetti noodles, and the chicken patties were so hard, you can throw them like a disc. It’s not as fancy as the assisted living with more of a hospital-like environment. They try to do different things.

My wife was released last Friday. They were suppose to call a request for medication to my pharmacy. I called them today to remind them they hadn't placed the order. It's close to 5 on Monday and my pharmacy has not called that an order has been received. Apparently, they are choosing not to cover an infection that possibly was pick up at their facility. I've already received your response by inaction.

My mother spent six weeks on rehab floor and I with her daily. Saw only kind, efficient and capable caregivers. They and the woman who cleaned the area brought us light, positivity, and humor. As rehabers, we could join residents in dining room on weekends. We were treated as diners in a restaurant with personal service. Tough job. Can't speak for everyone, but certainly ours was appreciated.

I visited a relative of mine at Eastern Shore Rehab. He stayed there for about six weeks. The facility is under staff and some of the staff were rude although the care that he receives is good. They clean the rooms everyday but the room still has little sugar ants.

Easternshore rehab is convenient to my home, it was available so I got a room for my mom and it's very, very nice. I am very pleased with the staff. They have church, games, TV and people who come in every now and then to entertain the residents. My mom is very happy with the food there. I would recommend this place to others.
