My wife was in Juniper Village at Lincoln Heights. We're quite pleased with them, the funding was made by Medicare, and after three weeks, she improved enough to go home. We were pleased with their care. It seems to be well-staffed, and the staff seems to know what they're doing. They keep the place clean, and the physical facilities are nice. She's in a 2-bed unit, fortunately, when we were there, there was no roommate, so that made it nicer. The room has a TV, and three meals a day are included. I visited my wife every day, and lots of times, they gave me food. It was good. It's maintained in a good, clean condition, and it's a very nice physical facility, with areas to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. There's a Methodist church next door, and they have programs to bring preschool, or young kids in to sing. It seemed like a very effective way of entertaining people there in Juniper.

We actually tried respite care and that was a nightmare for us. They are not abusive, but it just wasn’t a good fit for him. He was able to walk out the facility a couple of times. He was agitated there. It was just too hectic for him. It wasn’t really a memory care, but a nursing care place. So he really wasn’t in the right type of facility and that was the big part of it. The room itself looked more like a hospital room with the curtain pulls between them. We were just looking for a short term respite care and so they placed him in the nursing part and they have people with several different kinds of problems, so it wasn’t at all for Alzheimer's. It would be a fine place for somebody else, but not for my dad.
