Our mom has been on the Rehab side several times. She was well cared for each time, physical therapy was good. We recently had to move her to the nursing side, again very well taken care of. This past April was her 90th birthday. We had a party for her on the independent side. The two sides were very gracious coordinating. The room was perfect, the staff so helpful, they were very accommodating! A special shout out to Sheila Roth. She is amazing with the residents! It is very comforting knowing our mom is in a facility where she is taken good care of!

I think the Montevista at Coronado was a nice facility. In fact, my father-in-law was in their nursing home about a year ago. I am already familiar with the facility. I had the chance to look at the assisted living apartments, and they were very nice. It was very clean. They had lots of parking space. It was in a quiet neighborhood in a very nice part of town. The dining area was beautiful. They had a variety of menus. The staff seemed very helpful, very friendly, and very well trained.

No responsibility
While the independent living facility is as good as it gets, the skilled nursing care unit leaves a lot to be desired. It is neither family nor patient oriented. There is no patient advocate. Staff do not talk to patients or say who they are went they enter the patient's room. Those in charge are defensive and complaints are not meaningfully addressed.

The staff knows the patients--their likes and dislikes. The patients may have difficulty in communicating, but the staff will determine what their needs are--without losing patience. The Monte Vista is a beautiful place visually, but it's really the staff that makes it so good.
