My mother is in Cedarbrook Fountain Hill for nursing and rehab. I haven't been able to visit because of the COVID pandemic, but when I do call they answer all my questions, tell me about her care, and help me feel at ease that everything is going well so far. For the most part everybody has been very good. We have no complaints. There are times when they seem frazzled when I call, but I can only imagine that their day is busy as well. It's more on the pricey side.

There are major problems with nursing staff (RN,LPN,CNA). Understaffing is secondary to a major lack of professionalism at all levels. Lack of teamwork, staff interaction and leadership. All facilities have some outstanding staff, some problematic staff with most operating between the extremes. The majority lean to the poor extreme. Many outstanding staff resign sooner( less than 6 months) or later. Most leave due to poor staff relations and practices, inadequate professionalism and ineffective supervision and leadership. Facility itself is dated but well maintained thanks to a dedicated, skilled and well supervised Maintenance department. Cleanliness is adequate, unfortunately staff tend to follow the poor work attitudes and work ethics modeled by the nursing staff. I have terminal cancer, an open surgical wound requiring daily attention and advanced liver disease. Prior to transferring here I spent significant time at Good Shepherd Rehab. and Moravian Rehab. in Bethlehem. I transferred here because of increasing dependence on treatment support. I have been here just over 1year. Before I placed a loved one here I would recommend shopping carefully and "looking under the rugs and behind closed doors; both figuratively and actually". It is only my condition medically and financially that keeps me here.

My friend is at Cedarbrook for three years now and requires 24/7 care. The rooms have two beds, two rooms, and a bathroom. They are talking about redoing it. However, they are always short on staff, and whenever she is pushing the buzzer, it takes too much time for them to come and help her. They should have better nursing staff and more help as they depend a lot on aides helping them. The nursing staff on each floor is minimal; that’s the first thing they should look into.

The care my father receives is great. Every staff member I have come into contact with treats the patients well.

Mom had two bad falls and she cannot go back to assisted living. Cedarbrook Fountain Hill have a room and they are willing to take her. The staff is wonderful. It's a county home, so it's plain. But it's clean and they're doing a decent job.
