The first time I visited The Lakes of Sylvania I may have recommended it. It sure looked nice on the surface .... what's deeper that matters. Their treatment of my grandmother was beyond reprehensible and showed complete disregard for her wellbeing. They were supposed to be her care facility. She was in nursing care (not assisted living). They refused to assist with her adjustment to the facility, were complicit with over medicating and "snowing" her, and when we stopped that from happening the facility began demanding she move - although they refused put the request in writing. I spent the night with her at Lakes of Sylvania. The night shift nurse called hospice out in the middle of the night to give her more medications - except as the hospice nurse noted my grandma was sleeping peacefully and not in need of additional medications. When the nurse came in around 4AM she aggressively yelled in my grandma’s face asking her if she was in pain. To which my grandma told her no. The nurse asked me if I wanted them, there were two people attending, to adjust grandma in the bed. I said yes because she’d shifted and did not appear comfortable. Rather than having the aide, who was standing right there, assist her to gently lift grandma using the half sheet the nurse aggressively rolled her like a burrito in the half sheet and hauled her up the bed herself. My grandma cried for five minutes after she left and kept asking me, “who would do that to a person?” The nurse showed complete disrespect for my grandma as a human being. Many of the other staff were very friendly and at least a couple were wonderful to my grandma but all I heard from staff while I was in the facility was “we just don’t have enough staff.” That is an unacceptable excuse. For what Lakes is charging they should absolutely have more than enough staff to ensure that the things I witnessed do not occur such as: residents left sitting in the dining room for thirty minutes because no one was available to take them back to their rooms, my grandmother waiting thirty minutes or more when she pushed the call button, and my grandmother left crying because no staff was coming after she pressed the button for assistance going to the restroom. I lifted her myself because no one should be left in that situation. How awful would anyone feel being left in a situation where they would be forced to have an accident? Lakes’ treatment of people is not only disrespectful it’s inhumane. The only thing Lakes did was make a difficult situation worse. They made it harder on my grandma and harder on my family. So beware. If you or your loved one going into a facility BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY NEED CARE this isn't the place for you. If you can care for yourself they're all too happy to take your money.

The staff was very inattentive. My family member had a foley and they did not provide proper care. My family member became septic.
