The nurses and aides are trying to be helpful but they are overwhelmed. The administration does not help. Broken call buttons are not fixed. Showers are missed with no one noticing. Laundry does not follow through with labeling clothes. Outside consulting doctors see residents for 5 minutes and make decisions on medications without knowing or caring about patient history. Residents are left in bed until 10 or 11 am and are put back to bed by 7:30. There is no physical or mental stimulation. No activities. The only way to help your parent is to go straight to the head administrator. It seems the department heads do not work with each.

Far Above Avg all around. No nursing home is an ideal final destination.

My mother was recently discharged from this facility. Our initial interview in arrival was fine but all downhill from there. There was only one person on the nursing staff who showed any concern or compassion. Patients are stuffed in the hall in wheelchairs, in front of the t.v. in order to be in view from nurse’s station. Makes no difference, they are not paying any attention to clients. Clothing was lost, eyeglasses lost and it doesn’t seem to concern anyone. I could continue. I would not recommend this rehab to anyone.

Island Nursing is very nice. The staff is very kind and takes care of the patients. Dad is in a shared room. It’s a secure facility, but the price is a bit high.

My dad was there for approximately 3 months and I was there every night and the laziness of the staff was so incredible. He would sometimes wait for 1 hour to be changed before being put into bed while the nurses at the front desk on the rehab floor were sitting around bullshitting and would not help the aides who were so overworked.

I was very happy and satisfied with the Island Nursing & Rehab Center. The service was very good. The rehab itself, the PT, and the OTP was excellent. Everybody treated me with respect and courtesy, and I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant stay. It was a very nice facility. My room was very nice, equipped very well, airy, and pleasant. I was in a double occupancy, and I had a roommate; we got along very well. The PT had extremely good exercise for what a person needs. They have different activities from bingo to concerts; you name it, they have it.

I walked into the nursing home and it was kept in good order. The lady at the front desk was very nice and simply asked for the name of the individual I was visiting and why I was visiting. I told her it was my best friends mother, and that I was dropping flowers off to her. She then told me to wait until she was able to get someone to walk me down to the room where my best friends mother was staying. After a few minutes, five or so, I was greeted by a friendly, older man who introduced himself and then led me up to the room. On the way up I passed a room where some of the residents were playing bingo and I noticed some were asleep but others were enjoying them selves. I could tell from the mood in the air that some of the residents have become bored of living there for so long. The room where my best friends mother stayed was clean and had a good amount of sun light. Although she was sharing the room with someone else there was still a decent amount of privacy.Overall my experience with the nursing home was good. I just think they should try and get the residents out more often because you could tell some were tired of laying in the same bed for hour and hours a day, only leaving during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and during game nights.
