I came to Manzano after hip replacement surgery. I had a bright, very clean room looking on the winter garden. The staff, from top to bottom, was friendly, responsive, and concerned. My calls were answered promptly. The food was varied, well-prepared, and attractively served. Josh and Carla, my therapists, were skilled and visited daily to help me regain my mobility and learn the skills needed to go home and thrive. The nursing and care staffs were equally attentive, helping me be comfortable and regaining my abilities. Everyone worked together, including the Social Worker, my Case Manager, the in-house doctor, the nurse-practitioner, the nursing staff, the care staff, and even the cleaning staff, to make my stay pleasant and send me home ready to resume my life. Thank you to each and every one.

My mother is in the Good Samaritan Society - Manzano del Sol Village. They've got great staff, all the way through, from nursing to housekeeping, to facilities, to food services, just real caring staff. She loves the food. They have activities, an activity director, and an assistant director. Unfortunately, my mom is not able to participate because she's not able to get out of bed, but they've been trying to work with her and bring her books to read. They're pretty responsive.

My mother entered Manzano Del Sol for long-term rehab care after experiencing a series of strokes last March on the recommendation of a friend who had said that while basic in terms of facility the therapists were very skilled. Because of Covid regulations and because my mother could not use the phone on her own, the family only got to talk to her when the activities director was available which was about 3 times per week.
My mom was exhibiting all the symptoms of pancreatic cancer of which she had both a familial history and a genetic propensity towards developing. I requested repeatedly with the nurse that she be tested as the medications were not working and she was in a lot of pain. This request was ignored until my mom collapsed during one of her therapy sessions. Then, they sent her to Lovelace where the doctor informed me my mother had end-stage pancreatic cancer with a major tumor on her pancreas & tumors on other organs and only had days to live.
I was able to get her home after two days in the hospital. At home, the palliative care worker showed me deep bruising on my mother's upper right thigh which looked like someone had been holding the leg down. The bruising was developed enough so that it was not from an injury sustained in the hospital.
Good Sam never made contact with me to explain the bruising, which perhaps occurred from her collapse. In fact, they gave me very little followup information.
My mother passed away three days after returning home. My mom had been extremely lonely, forced to have the tv on in her room (which she hated), and was disoriented during her time at Manzano del Sol. Had anyone listened to me (I had medical POA) or had looked in detail through her medical history they would have realized that the symptoms she was experiencing were likely tie to pancreatic cancer. Through ineptitude (or perhaps for the Medicare payments) they robbed my mother of weeks of peace at home as she transitioned out of life. I hope this never happens to anyone else.

My father-in-law is in Good Samaritan Society Manzano del Sol Village, and we haven't been happy at all. He was moved in on Friday, and this Saturday my husband went to go see him, but they didn't know what room he was in. Finally, my husband found him all the way down at the end of the hall and all the lights were out. He went to the nurse station to help him get my father-in-law's bed to work, and they asked what room, and when my husband told them, they said they didn't even know they had anybody in that room. We don't know if they did anything with my father-in-law once he came. We liked the physical therapists, but we haven't been able to get any information from a doctor as to how long my father-in-law is going to be there. We're also having a difficult time meeting with social services. They were testing him four times a day every day for his glucose even though he has never been diabetic. It has not been a good experience at all. The only thing my father-in-law does is physical or occupational therapy and sometimes they don't even remember to take him down to lunch. My father-in-law likes the food, though. They have to make sure that the bed was working, and they didn't even have a call button for him. The telephone was broken and we couldn't get the TV to go on.

Manzano Del Sol Village is very good, and the staff is very good. My mom's room is clean, bright, and very nice. The food seems to be OK. They have Bible study and card games.

Good Samaritan was great. They took very good care of my mother and were very personable and professional. Everything they did for her was appreciated, but she passed away. It was a retirement facility, but they have a wing for assisted living. The cleanliness was very good.

The staff of Manzano Del Sol Village was great. They all seemed happy to be there and very helpful. They got these gorgeous little linens on the tables in their dining area, and it was really pretty. From what I remember, they let their residents order from the menu. Their security was good, and we were satisfied with it. This place was wonderful, but the price was very high.

My mother has been at Manzano del Sol for the past ten days or so. Last night at 8:10pm the head nurse calls me to notify me that my mother had gone missing and that she was found in the parking lot outside in this freezing winter cold. Did she have shoes or proper clothing on? How long was she truly out there before the lazy staff decided to notice that she was missing?
I try to spend between 3 - 5 hours, five days per week with my mother so that I can avoid situations as this.
When in the dining room the staff will be on their cellular phones, texting to whomever. They will be chatting to their coworkers instead of attending to the patients. When I am there, I notice all of the mishaps and non-caring of the staff. Of course, for them it is just another low-paying job, but still, they should do their job.
I would recommend that anyone who has family here to be as attentive as possible as this rehabilitation center has several law suits against it on a yearly basis, and that State has been involved in several.

In August of 2011, I toured four assisted living facilities in Albuquerque, NM. My mother is only 63 years old, but has numerous health problems which prevent her from living completely alone. She only wanted to tour facilities which were within five miles from her niece's house so that it would be easy for her to visit my mother. I live over 1,000 miles away, so I wanted her to get on a waiting list for the nicest possible facility. Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village was by far the finest facility we visited. We met several different staff members, including nurses, nurse's assistants, and even the kitchen staff, who were all very welcoming. We couldn't have been more impressed! Not only are the rooms and facility itself beautiful, but the grounds and courtyard are beyond believable. Gorgeous trees and flowers, ponds full of koi fish with walkway bridges to cross them, gazebos, numerous benches and tables with chairs and umbrellas, an indoor swimming pool, a walking track, and even two little houses built for the two old tortoises that live on the grounds. Everything was wheel chair accessible, as I had to push my mother in hers for the tour. The residents there were also welcoming and friendly, and one couple showed us an amazing chapel where non-denominational church services are held every Sunday. They also told us about daily activities and monthly events held there, so the residents are never bored or lonely. We could see photos on the bulletin boards from several recent events that were held there, including the most recent a luau in the huge courtyard. It was definitely a home away from home.My mother later had physical therapy there in the skilled nursing unit, and it was our chance to really feel the place out. We could not find one thing to complain about! The facility is immaculately clean, and the staff is quite knowledgeable and always helpful and friendly. My mother was put on the waiting list immediately, and within 2-3 years, we hope to have her there permanently. We expected a waiting list for such a unique and wonderful place to live for those who need a little assistance. I feel good about her staying there, and to me, that peace of mind is priceless.
