There are two things I like the least about Westminster Oaks Tallahassee. The first would be the cost. The second one is the fact that my mother doesn't get much one-on-one type attention, which at this point, she really needs. The staff is actually good. I would give a vast majority of them a 5 rating, but there's a few that are not as good. Like most facilities, sometimes they get shorthanded. When they get really hurried and worked, they get a little short tempered, in my opinion. Not that I blame them, but that's their job. They don't really address dietary needs. I've talked to them a number of times. They are good about getting away from food allergies. For those who are very intolerant to things that are highly acidic, they don't do a good job of that. They have some activities, but they don't have any that are interactive enough. They don't engage the residents. It is a group thing, and they put them in front of the TV. They said that they do educational shows, music programs, and things like that, but they just sit there and most go to sleep. The facility is very nice and very clean (which is one of the reasons we stayed there). It's bright, very open with lots of windows, and a big hallway where they can all gather. They have music programs and things sometimes. I thought Westminster Oaks Tallahassee was charging a whole lot, but they're pretty much in line with some of the other facilities. The difference for them was that we put down quite a large sum of money when moving in. She's gotten into what is a skilled nursing type situation, and the prices just jumped up.

My grandfather was at Westminster Oaks, and it was pretty good. He stayed at the facility for a few months. I would recommend this to people who cannot get into another rehab facility.

The facility itself was relatively nice. It was clean, although very antiseptic-smelling, and the hallways and rooms were wide and large enough. The decor was less than homely, as if they tried to make it seem more like a retirement community than an actual nursing home, so they put fake potted plants all over the place. This had the effect of seeming more like a hospital than any kind of retirement environment. There were different sections where different types of patients were. My grandmother was in the section with more Alzheimer's patients, which was a more uncomfortable section of the facility. The staff wasn't that helpful. There were almost no male nurses, so the staff was predominately female. Although they seemed to be nice, they weren't very accommodating and didn't seem to care that much about the patients. Everything was carried out at such a leisurely pace that we were always stuck waiting around. They also didn't appear to be interested in physical therapy and would instead let the residents skip it, which is obviously bad for their health and doesn't reflect their best interests. There was a communal dining room and my family ate there a few times. The food was disgusting, and involved overly-boiled carrots.

My client wanted somewhere thats live!! This is it! From tennis, to swimming, to pool tables, gyms and much much more. If I ever need nursing home care, this will be one of my top picks. The be fit, live well, stay active program is EXACTLY what my client is needing. The family wants her to stay active, not lounging or laying around majority of the day. From recent reports, Westminster received a 4.2 overall average. But they get 5 stars in my book!!!
