My father stayed at this place for 3 months after a stroke and my family's experience was horrible. The key to recover from a stroke is physical and speech rehab. A certain number of hours were set aside each day, paid by the insurance, but the actual hours delivered were far fewer. I practically had to chase down the speech therapist to watch her to do her work. Even then she would say she would be right there and then disappear down the hall. When I could get her, she would come and teach my father how to do the exercises literally in 5 minutes and then disappear again. I was stressed out enough and I really needed this place to be professional.

I had a stroke in the middle of September last year and I went to Kindred after I left the hospital. I was there for five months. At first they put me in a multi-person room, then they moved me to a two-person room, and finally to a single-person room. The service was good. The place was clean. The first line staff that was taking care of me was very good, but the management staff was not so good. I think the staff was caring and helpful, but the management was not.

My mother went to Kindred Rehab two years ago. I was more impressed with it then, but it seems to have gone downhill. The rehab that she was supposed to get wasn't very good. I wasn't really impressed with it. The food was kind of blah, and she didn't like it. They had a dining room where you could go and eat, which was better than eating in your room. There were three people to a room which was really cramped and small. They barely had room for one visiting person to bring a chair in there and there are just curtains between the beds. My mother was there for a total of four or five weeks in two separate stays.

I would rate this facility a 10 star if that was a possibility. The administrator, social workers and case manager are excellent caring people. They always take time to listen to me and address my concerns.
I would recommend private citizens to stay here nonetheless patients after a brief hospital stay.

The staff at Kindred was really good. They have clean single and double rooms, an activity calendar, and really good food.

I didn't like the staff, they were short of staff. Lawton was terrible. The kitchen was clean, the look and feel was clean. My dad's room was to the far end but he had a window. He had the curtains drawn a lot but he opened it up. It was well lit, it wasn't dark and grungy. I didn't like the service either, it's basic care. My dad kept trying to get out of the bed and they just had a little bell. I just thought it would be a little more sophisticated. His bed sores were huge. It was all around his back, it went down his legs. It was horrible, looked like gangrene.
Unfortunately, he didn't eat. The one thing I can say, the staff did train us how to take care of my dad using a feeding tube. That is a compliment I will give them. He stayed there recuperating and doing a little bit of rehab. As far as rehabbing, they did have doctors who came in.
