The only place I have had my mom for after-care was Pueblo Norte, and they were wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about them. They have hospice, after-care, and memory care. The facility was beautiful; the food was great. The people were absolutely wonderful. I saw them as a community and liked how they dealt with people and talked with the nurses. The nurses were very nice, very down to earth. They knew how the game is played. Some people don't want to bother with them, and other people really want to interact with them. One time, Mom was really belligerent about being bathed, and they said that they wanted me there. They wanted me to realize that no one was doing anything to upset her. Mom was carrying on terribly, and they were kind enough to call me, which they didn't have to do.
The chef came to Mom's room a couple of times. He actually showed up; it's not just the nurse who came back and forth. I needed something, and they showed me the kitchen. They had everything there. It was very personal. If I had to have after-care, I would want to go there.
I was heartbroken my mom wasn't going to be one of those ladies getting on the bus to go over to the casino and going here and there, that she was going to be in managed care. I've had my grandkids with me. They were always welcome. I kept them quiet, but they had a nice visiting area. They were allowed in rooms. They had service animals, people, and all kinds of stuff. My experience there was wonderful.
