I toured The Waterford at Virginia Beach. It was really dark. You could tell that it was an older facility. They didn't have a lot of lights on. It was very dim, and it wasn't welcoming like the other place when we walked in. The people at the front were fine, but we had to sign a lot of paperwork to get in, which I didn't enjoy. The person who assisted us was nice. However, it seemed like this was a shorter tour because she had other obligations. It was a little rushed. For the most part, she was able to answer our questions fine. It just was a rushed visit. The food seemed fine based on what they showed on the menu. The dining area wasn't very welcoming compared to other places. It wasn't bright. It was in a separate room. I didn't like that because in the other homes we looked at, everything was very open. They had to go to a specific kitchen to eat, and I didn't really like that. I like that they allow their seniors to go to different places outside the facility. They do field trips, which I enjoy. But when we had walked in, it just seemed like a lot of the seniors were either in bed sleeping or watching TV. My family didn't enjoy that because it didn't seem like they were doing anything that was stimulating. The facility probably needs to be updated a little bit. They probably would be a little bit more organized. At that time when we were there, it seemed like a lot of people's dirty clothes were outside, and I didn't like that either.

What I liked the best about The Waterford at Virginia Beach is that they did not have a care level price. The price they quoted was the price it was going to stay at; so they didn't have another fee on top of the price. What I like least is it is smaller, so there are fewer community areas for the residents. The staff who walked us around was kind, helpful, and professional. They had one activities room, they had a courtyard, a sunroom and then they had one TV viewing room or cinema room.

Our visit to The Waterford at Virginia Beach was an excellent experience. I like the rooms and the care they give there. The staff was very professional, too. I met a lot of them, and they assisted me properly. The dining area was clean, and they had a list of activities and programs.

There are some parts of The Waterford at Virginia Beach that I'm very happy with, but there are some parts that I'm disappointed in. My mom is a resident. The staff members are always attentive. The cleanliness and the environment are really good. They have activities, but my mom hasn't been interested in participating in anything. They have a beauty shop there, and my mom needs to set an appointment. The food is disappointing, too.

The Waterford at Virginia Beach is fantastic and clean. My husband is in Reflections, which is their locked down or memory care unit. They listen to you. If you have a problem and go to the right people, you can get things fixed. He loves The Waterford. They're caring. They have Christmas parties, cookouts, picnics, and several things scheduled for the people outside the locked-down unit. They have an activities director who does exercises with them. They have puzzles and crafts and people who come in and sing for them and play piano. The food is fantastic. He is a country boy and very picky, and I have never seen him turn a plate down and loves the desserts. There's just not as many activities as I would like, and they are a little expensive.
