I don't recommend the memory care at Delaney. Some of the care staff is nice, although they have a high turnover so it's hard to keep up with them, but the management is pretty awful. They say they're going to call back, but never do. We were promised things before my mom moved in, and it's been 10 months and the promises remain broken. They are always short staffed. Before she moved in they claimed they had a 1:6 ratio, but now they say they never said better than 1:8, which I know isn't true because we wouldn't have moved her there. The truth is that sometimes there's only 1 for the whole unit, which is about 16 people. Usually there are 2, but since they have several residents in wheelchairs, and it takes 2 to change diapers or help with baths for some of them, that leaves the rest of the residents unattended. Activities are virtually non-existent. My sister and I visit at different times of day, and on different days of the week, and, unless they're eating, 95% of the time the residents are parked in front of the tv, and the staff is sitting as well. I've never once in 10 months found them doing what's on the activity calendar. Even when they're eating, no one is trying to engage them and they all sit silently. They have a nice activity room, but they don't use it. The staff isn't trained on how to deal with patients with dementia, or if they are, they don't use it. The new director was recently looking at pictures and trying to get the residents to guess the picture. He kept using the word remember. No, they don't remember! They have dementia! They told us before she moved in that they would be separating the residents into their two units based on ability. They told us it would happen in two weeks. We even picked a room on the new side. 7-8 months later, they moved 3 people, but that side is never staffed, and they don't use the dining room. They tell us that staff is supposed to be rounding through the units every 30 minutes, but I'm sometimes there for two hours and never see any of them. For 6 months they've been telling us that they're going to start/complete the moves in a week or two and that they're getting new residents, but still nothing. The food is good, but they don't really have choices, so if a resident doesn't like something, they're out of luck. My mom has lost quite a few pounds since she moved in, which we can tell because she's gone from a 10 to a 6, but nobody has mentioned it. By law, they're supposed to have a care plan meeting in the first 30 days and then quarterly, but we had the first one about 6 months after she moved in and are still waiting for the next one. Unfortunately we are again in a situation of looking for a place that will meet Mom's needs.
