I was very impressed with The Monarch at Richardson. The lady who gave us the tour was just very, very nice. It didn't have any openings at the time, but she went ahead and did the tour. Every day they have a one-hour learning time, where memory care residents come in and learn about something (like a certain country or some current event). The facility was very nice in appearance and clean. The room that we looked at was updated, but they were not quite as updated as the other facility we looked at.

It was multilevel and my only concern was mom and dad could forget which floor they live on. You could take the elevator up or down, but you couldn't leave the memory care area without either a staff member or knowing the code, which was great because somebody could accidentally wander to where they shouldn't be. The guy who gave me the tour was very friendly and courteous. The people in the memory care area at a certain age would go backwards in their life, so they had a crib with baby dolls there. They could change diapers and rock them in the chair, which was a very interesting way of dealing with people who had regressed. They had a music group singing that got the residents involved. Their cookies were excellent.
