Brookdale Lake Highlands was clean and laid out very nicely. It was one of the smallest facilities that we had looked at, which made it intimate. They had fewer residents there, which is good because it gives a higher level of individual care. I liked that place. The staff was really warm and welcoming. We liked them. The lady who was over the memory care unit had maybe 15 years of experience right there in that facility. They have a computer program that gets the residents to participate. Every facility we looked at, the rooms are pretty much the same. They had suites and one-bedroom apartments. They're clean, and everything is as I expected.

I was just impressed with Brookdale Lake Highlands. I like how they had the facility set up because, in some of the other ones, the memory care was kind of shoved off in a corner. This place is not like that. It was pretty much open to everybody. I liked the rooms and I liked their dining hall too. They gave me a menu for the week and they invited me to come back and have dinner there. The menu looked great. I met the chef too. The staff was very friendly and very open about everything. They tried to assist me and they even invited me back, with my family and kids, to have a meal with them. They followed up with that too.

I visited several assisted living locations prior to this one. I was searching for a facility for my father who has mild to mid level dementia. During my tour, I was impressed with how all of the staff news all of the residents names and took the time to stop and talk to all of them. It was clean and homey. My father has been a resident since July and I couldn't be happier with this location. They take really good care of my father and he now loves it there. It did take him a while to adjust but, I blame that on his dementia. They never let his temper tantrums stop them from treating him with respect and patience. They treat all of their residents as if they are members of their own family.
