Brookdale Corpus Christi was absolutely wonderful. It was more expensive, but it was really, really nice and beautiful. It was large and well-kept. I really loved the layout of the memory care area. It was well thought out and designed. If I was going to design a memory care layout, I would have done it just like that with a central hub and the kitchen/dining activity area, surrounded with the rooms. The lady who gave the tour was wonderful. She was not like a salesperson. She was more of a director of the place, and she was extremely knowledgeable about all the aspects of the facility. She knew her residents quite well. She knew them and addressed people by name. Everything smelled clean, but not hospital clean. It smelled welcoming. It was nicely decorated as though you were in a home with images of the area so residents could look at things and find familiarity with some of the landmarks of the area. There's also artwork that the residents had done. There were certain areas in the dining room where it looked almost like you're going to a restaurant, while others looked more like you were eating at home (because there's a family dining room table around it), and the rest of the areas felt more for an individual. So, people could feel at home and they could find whatever that was fitting to their mood at that time. They have a very consistent routine of physical activity. It could be a walk outside the house or different types of exercises at a certain time. They would have a snack and hydration time, reminiscing time (where they talk about things or bring up topics that were on their minds), story time, and music time. I liked that there was a schedule and consistency of routines, which is so important for people in the memory care.

I went to Brookdale Corpus Christi. As far as the memory care unit, it is very, very organized, and very attentive to the patients. There was a lot of support for every individual patient. It was phenomenal. It was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw the dining area, the outdoor patio area, an actual suite, a room, I guess, an apartment, as they call it. It was great, it was very home-like. Everything from the security to the activities that they plan to have a staff member dedicated to those activities, and the daily routines of the patients, a five.

My mother has moved into Brookdale Corpus Christi. It's a small caring unit made up of nurses that care about the people that live there. The activities are great. Everything that's done there is for the residents. I was very insecure about putting my mother in any place but my home, but it's been a very nice experience. They have allowed me to call them all the time. I even have a private number to be able to call while I'm out of the country to Facetime with my mother. They go above and beyond what I thought they were going to be like. My mother is in memory care. It's a small group with only about 20 residents, and the staff is just amazing. The food is good, and it's more geared towards people who can't swallow. The facility is beautiful. They have chair exercises, arts and crafts, they're putting music on while they're having meals, and they went on a bus ride the other day. They took the residents that were able to get out and took them on an hour and a half bus ride around the city.

My mother-in-law was here. We chose this place because they had Alzheimer's care. She probably stayed there for one to two years. When she first went in there, things seemed to be okay. The facility didn't smell. However, when I visited at another time, I felt like the place wasn't properly cleaned. Overall, everything had been good in terms of care.
