I just moved my aunt at Dow Rummel in Sioux Falls. I was able to virtually tour it and we chose the place because they have an onsite physician so all her care could happen right there. They also have a lot of things for their memory care residents to do. It's practically a brand-new facility, so it's really nice. They have a swimming pool and a hot tub, and they have therapy that they can offer to their residents there. It's also very homey and comfortable, and they have this little nook for the residents to stop by. It's kind of a five and dime store. They have cereal boxes and things on the shelves, and if they want to go shopping they can do that. They have a controlled courtyard, so like a garden area with heated sidewalks underneath so they could still walk out on cooler months and to make sure there's no ice on the ground. They just have a really nice place and the whole unit is set up in a circle so there's no getting lost and they can just kind of walk laps. It seems like a very good place for her to go. She has a full-size bed and a side table. It's kind of like a studio apartment so there's not a full kitchen, of course, because it's the memory care, but there is a little dormroom size fridge so they can keep snacks or water and whatever they need. They have a little kitchenette. The bathroom is huge, it's big enough for wheelchair access if they need it. We didn't need to bring towels because those are provided. They have a way of emptying garbage and replacing things like toilet paper and paper towels from the outside of the room to her closet, which is really kind of cool. They have access to what they call a spa, they have one room where they have a walk-in tub, those tubs that you can walk-in and they seal them up and close them. She was very excited about them. The staff seemed really nice. They all came down and introduced themselves while we were moving her in. They seemed welcoming. What I like the most is the fact that it was very clean. They have housekeeping that goes into the rooms every day. They do the laundry and they're just everywhere, so the place didn't have that weird smell like how some places have because they're not well kept. It just felt like home. It's a big community and it's comfortable. I really can't say about the food though, but she said it's good and that they have cupcakes and ice cream in the afternoons, so she's really excited about that.

Let me start by saying, I am not one to post unflattering things about businesses. I realize not everyone has the same experience. My mother-in-law has lived here for about 6 years now. Its definitely an adjustment. We eat brunch with her every Sunday. They have a restaurant on site called Covells. The food for the most part is decent, but the food this Christmas was absolutely horrifying. Sunday brunches are so much better. My complaint is I've never in my life, with any restaurant been literally sick to my stomach. PLEASE NOTE, CHRISTMAS Dinner should be at utmost concern. Many of the residents can not go anywhere else. I'm so disappointed in that ugh lunch.
