The facility itself is lovely. It is new, and kept clean. The caregivers are sweet and do their best. They are underpaid and overworked. Administration does a terrible job of communicating with families. We were given a lot of false promises and we were very disappointed with the follow through. My parent declined rapidly there.

I did a tour of Pear Valley Senior Living. It is a very large two-story complex. It's beautiful and is like a log cabin, just gorgeous. The food is very good. If you start to develop dementia or if you have a spouse who has dementia and you're in the assisted, your spouse can stay in the same care facility. It's just connected over into a separate building. It's a secure unit for dementia patients. They have a nursing facility there and they have their medication rounds. The rooms are private or shared. The food is okay, it's not going to be the best, but it's better than starving to death. The staff was very good. The place was clean. They're low-staffed, but all places are short-staffed, that's everywhere. But when the staff is working, they are courteous, and they smile. They're very good with their patients. If they have a difficult patient, they know how to handle the situation. If I can get my husband back, that's where he's going to go. I did try the food, it's okay if it had been warm. The only problem is that it was delivered to him cold in a Styrofoam container, and that was displeasing. The facility is absolutely beautiful. I didn't get the workbooks or anything on the activities. I know that they do more with their patients. They had a lot of poster boards on the walls with activities that the patients have done or activities that they're going to be doing.

I visited Pear Valley Senior Living. It was OK. It gave me an insight into what you could expect in memory care, and so I've decided to go with in-home care for a while. It was clean, and they were nice. I didn't take notes. I just went in, talked to them, looked around, and left. It was more of an institution, but more of a caring institution. For the short time I was there it looked clean, and they were nice.
