My mom has been at The Woodlands of Shaker Heights for 5 years now. The facility is lovely, but they have staff shortages, which is common across the country these days.
They are very professional, very hands on, and very caring. When the power went out and they didn't have a generator, they still continued to provide care. They have a caring and professional hands-on team at every level.
My mom has a single room with her own shower and toilet. It is comfortable and sizable. It has a good view. They have music, exercises, arts, and Bible studies. They have people come in and read to them. They have a good hardworking team.

I was very impressed with the facility and the staff at The Woodlands of Shaker Heights. They were very, very helpful, polite, and just forthcoming with information. The tour of their memory care was nice. I just was so impressed with the feel and the look of the facility, the cleanliness, and just everything about it seemed so warm and welcoming.
I talked with the assistant director of nursing who was so knowledgeable and helped reassure me that nursing homes have changed over the years and for the better. The rooms were very pleasant and just well-organized. They have such a really pretty environment there and the view from the rooms are spectacular. I think it would be very peaceful for someone to just be there and surrounded by that. The grounds and everything about it were impressive.
I did not get the opportunity to try their food. They told me how long the chef had worked there and to me, that meant that they were very satisfied with the work environment. For the overall staff to be there for 22 years, I commend them. That speaks a lot about the organization and its management team. They're in a very difficult situation so my hat's off to them for doing what they are doing and smiling all the time. Everyone I saw was very cheerful, including the residents.
The dining room was most impressive and so was the entire building. I told them that it reminded me of the movie Gone with the Wind. You walk in a grand staircase that goes in two directions and is impressive. It's very clean and I was impressed with their COVID status. It was remarkable to have 98% of the staff vaccinated and 90% of the residents, that was very reassuring for me.
It had an inviting atmosphere and was very open, and I think that that's a good thing. The security that they have in place on their memory care unit is great. It's a lockdown unit and it just made you feel better knowing that the possibility of the residents leaving is minimal because it's very secure.

I toured The Woodlands of Shaker Heights. It was a very positive experience. It was a very comfortable community atmosphere. Everybody was friendly and people spoke. It was very well maintained, and the staff was friendly, as well.
I saw a single room and it was spacious enough for one person. I liked that it was a private bathroom with a stand-up shower. A nice thing was there was a mini-refrigerator for personal items that my mom would want in her apartment. It was nice.
While I was there, breakfast was being served and so it looked like home-cooked food. I liked that there weren't so many people, and it wasn't crowded. It was a smaller community and I liked that. My sister was with me, and she noticed that compared to another place that we have visited, it has fewer residents.
