We had to move Mom after 5 or 6 weeks because the move to Omni West made her agitated, more confused, and sometimes aggressive. Mom has later stage Alzheimers, but can walk and talk and eat. A nurse set the stage for a bad experience right at the beginning, by not following proper manners/protocol with an Alzheimer's client, and it set the scene for suspicions and mistrust, resulting in my mother almost constantly paranoid and on guard, and even violent. It was a bad experience, and so we moved Mom to a small 5 bed facility, where she has been three weeks now, and the acting-out behaviors and paranoia have stopped. Omni West has some terrific staff. It only take one who is not trained in Memory Care to upset everything. The other clients that we saw during Mom's stay seemed to be higher functioning for the most part, and most seemed content and happy. So not all bad by any means. They do not seem equipped for a "true" Alzheimer patient, which is an odd thing for a memory care place.
