My father is in the memory care unit at Allegria at Ocean Grove. So far, it's been great. I found the people very caring and helpful and follow through has been 100%. His room is somewhat dated, but for him, that's not an issue. There's plenty of room for his bed and a reading chair and a decent size bathroom with all the safety measures. It's nothing fancy, but it doesn't need to be for him. The staff is very patient and adept at doing their jobs. Any concern I've had, when I've reached out, someone has always gotten back to me in a very timely manner. They have called me with any concerns, and so far, I'm very impressed with the staff. I have not tried the food, but it smelled good. One time I was leaving and the dinners were coming up on a cart, they had some beautiful pieces of cheesecake. My father said that things have been good. He has not been participating in many, but there are more activities for assisted living. In memory care, it's a little harder to get them out, but when I've been there, I've seen them playing Hangman or having sheets out for them to color, crossword, or whatever their abilities are. They've had things like that out in the room. Usually, they're playing some sort of National Geographic program on the television. He likes to go outside and one of the staff did take him out yesterday because it was such a beautiful day for about an hour, one on one, and that's kind of a big deal. It's an older building, but it's clean. They have put nice furniture, comfortable chairs, coffee machine, and televisions in the common areas. You can go into the regular dining room, which always has flowers on the table. It's well kept up and cared for. I've been impressed with the care. I had a bed delivered and they were right there and took it up and put it together and removed everything. They had lent us a TV and I went and bought him a new TV, it was not a Smart TV, but it was just ridiculously confusing. They brought back the old TV and put that in his room because he's able to use it. They've been wonderful. It's just too expensive. Considering how many staff members they have to pay, it's probably not bad. When push comes to shove, it's worth the money.

The staff that were working with the patients at Allegria at Ocean Grove seemed very nice, and the lady who gave me a tour of was also extremely nice. But I did not like the way the rooms were set up. I think this building had belonged to somebody else before like a church organization, so it had more like a hospital setup. I found that some of the rooms and hallways were difficult to navigate to find where you're going. The rooms and bathrooms setup, I also didn't like that. I can tell that the food was good because I saw the people eating and they looked happy. They have activities there and the place was clean. But the setup of the rooms the way the place is makes it easy for the residents to get confused or lost.

Allegria at Ocean Grove was very institutional. The rooms were OK. The activity room had people sitting in little chairs with the caregiver in the back. They had one TV on that looked like it was about 60 years old. It wasn't clean. There wasn't so much interaction with the residents. They had people who could move around and they were doing an event downstairs. We had an appointment, but nobody was around and they didn't have it listed. Somebody offered to give us the tour and she did a very good job and was really helpful. When we were in the elevator, she was trying to get a hold of the nurse to let them know that we were coming up. She had a two-way radio and tried to get the nurse three times and the nurse never answered and that was a concern. I suggest that they make the activity room more friendly looking and have comfortable furniture.
