About This Community
Welcome to Via Christe Assisted Living and Memory Care

Via Christe Assisted Living Community opened in October of 2005 after a group of Omaha investors wanted to provide housing services for seniors in one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods. The building acquired was the former “Foxley Building” which was built in 1962 as part of Duchesne College. This 41,150 sq. ft. four level building was completely renovated into “assisted living” apartments and “memory care” apartments.

Via Christe which is Latin for “Way of Christ” now proudly serves Omaha seniors. Offering elevated care levels in a comprehensive support environment that includes daily Catholic Mass in the stunning “Christ the Good Shepherd” Chapel.

Jean's Baby
My mother was content at Via Christe for 3 of her 3.5 years. She had dementia but was always happy, unless someone wanted to help her with the activities of daily living or clean her room! So, things didn't get done, but I do not blame any staff member for not helping her or cleaning up after her. Mom didn't even know she needed help. : ( When my mom wouldn't go down to the dining room, the staff was so kind to bring all three meals to her room. Rarely did I meet aides who were not joyful and engaging with Mom, but there was a LOT of CNA turnover. Mom (and so I, as well) had problems with the laundry staff, who literally ruined some of her clothes by not separating them and not using dryer sheets. Her sweaters and polyester pants had towel lint covering them and all of her clothes and towels felt rough to the touch. I began washing her clothes at my home. Also, it may have been disorganization, but Mom "lost" clothes and towels over the years. I do believe some laundry items were stolen. I think tissues and tp were stolen as well. Finally, when Mom began having strokes and visiting the ER, she clearly needed more attention and care and was moved to the "Memory Unit." It turns out she got less care because there were 29 MU patients, who obviously all needed more attention, and only 5 nursing assistants on duty at any time. Of the 5, there was usually, BUT NOT ALWAYS, 1 licensed nurse. As my mother ate less and became dehydrated, no one noticed until an LPN happened to be on duty one day. She called me with concern for my mom's health. The LPN suggested Mom go to the emergency room. My mother was in such poor mental and physical health that, after the ER visit, I had her moved to a nursing home where she had an assigned RN every shift, which is obviously what she needed. Via Christe may be a great facility for assisted living, but when you see mental and physical changes in your parent, please do not wait to get him/her transferred to a hospital and then a nursing home. Via Christe may be great with memory issues but not with physical and emotional changes your parent will face. I would not refer anyone to that facility.
