I witnessed a very sad situation on my recent visit with my mother in law. One of the other residents was walking around trying to get help with her very obviously soaking wet diaper. The THREE staff members at the desk just ignored her….finally, the one that was eating a large bag of chips told her to sit in a chair. The aide that was playing on her phone never looked up. The third aide walked away….That poor woman sat in that wet diaper for 16 minutes before she got up and asked for help again…she was made to sit again in that chair…her pants were absolutely soaked!! Finally, I went up the desk and asked why someone was not helping this woman!! “Someone will be back to help her shortly” I was told…..the definition of laziness. This is why I visit my MIL as often as I can.

I liked The Commons At Brightmore of Wilmington. My brother-in-law was there in the memory care unit. The administration changed fast. You thought you knew who you were dealing with and then the next week it was somebody new. So, it caused you to be concerned that there was no continuity. Some of the staff were very good. They all liked my brother-in-law. The weekend help was terrible and the nighttime help was not so good. They did not know how to redirect the Alzheimer's and dementia residents. They did not have a camera system, for instance, to watch people at night. The daytime CNAs were OK. They seemed to have a very good activity director. They had an auction one day, they played bingo for several days where they got little prizes, and a lady came to play music for them. They also painted and drew one day. They just need their people to be trained in how to handle Alzheimer's and dementia residents. The turnover is so great that they don't have anyone that's trained.
