The apartments at Sunrise of Cary were clean and nice. The memory care unit we saw would have been a problem with us because there was a step to the shower so they would have ended up having to take mom across the way, and it just wasn't going to work out. Other than that, they have activities like painting, bingo, music, and worship services. The building was nice. They have different areas you could sit in if you wanted to be quiet or in a large group.

Sunrise of Cary was a larger facility. They seemed to have a lot more activities going on and I felt they had a wider range to offer to me because there were like 33 residents from memory care. Price-wise, they were about the same as the others. The person that gave the tour was very informative and very engaging in trying to provide a solution. They seemed to have more options on a room setup, but on the downside, they only had two small patio areas.

I toured Sunrise of Cary. Their memory care was way too expensive and I feel like there wasn't enough supervision. The room that my sister was going to be in, was going to be down and around a corner and I didn't see where the nurse's station was on that floor. The rooms were small and the rug was filthy. They put in new carpeting, but it just didn't seem homey to me. Their assisted living seemed fine, though, and the person who did the tour was great, but the staff members (the people working with the residents) didn't interact with me at all.

Sunrise of Cary was very grand and beautiful. We visited on a Saturday, so there wasn't a lot of activity going on. I saw both the assisted living and memory care section of the facility, and the memory care side was very, very well thought out and planned out regarding the things they offered. The person who gave us the tour was very helpful too. My only comment was I had to call them today because they did not have a packet with the pricing and everything available to give me, and they were going to e-mail it to me but it didn't come. Hopefully, I'm going to get that soon, but she did show us around and was very thorough in describing what they offer. We were in the elevator at some point when the person who was taking orders for dinner told us the menu for the day, and it was very nice. It looked very good. We didn't sample any food, but it was varied and not institutional-type food. In the memory care, they have what they called "reminiscence stations" where there's a wedding-day area and they can dress up, put their hats on, and just reminisce about the past -- your wedding day or whatever. There's one station that was in an office, and there was a military one. They were set up as conversation starters and to promote what they remember better than immediate memory. They also have a library. There was a small group of residents playing bingo, another group watching sing-along videos, and a finger game going on in the memory care.

Sunrise of Cary was very nice, but we didn’t like that it was two floors; the memory care was on the second floor, and there’s an elevator involved. The living atmosphere was nice, and it had decent size rooms. Outside the rooms, they placed something on the door or outside to remind the residents that that’s their room; pictures, or something meaningful to them. The staff seemed fine, They plan each month on the board for the things they do each day, and it looked like there were activities to do each day. The rooms inside were very nice, with a bed, dresser, chair, or whatever was needed. They appeared clean, and the dining room was set up very nicely with lots of tables where groups can gather, lovely place settings, and looked very cheerful. They had different areas to gather and sit, whether it be TV, reading, juice, or snack bar. They had a hairdresser who comes in once a week as well as doctors who come in. They can plan a visit, speak to as many people as they can, and get a feel for the place.
