I went to The Gardens at Barry Road. It was clean and it did not smell. The room was clean and organized. I observed activities. The residents were sitting and eating, they were sitting and watching TV, and they were getting their meds. The staff who helped us were nice and professional. They answered our questions.

We left The Gardens at Barry Road because of poor food and poor care. My mom was in memory care and she wouldn't eat and was starving to death. Then she got in poor health, because they wouldn't take care of her. She was left soiled and she wasn't taken care of. We left there in a very big hurry because it got bad real quick. That was two and a half years ago. The facility itself was fairly clean and kept up, but it was also outdated.

We did a tour of The Gardens at Barry Road. It's a little bit further away from where our home is. Also, I would say it's an older building. All the private rooms had had a kitchen in it, and I don't know it just was older, and kind of dark and dreary. The rooms looked a little dark. She just took us in one that, I guess they just show people. It looked like it was just kind of closed and had a kitchen. It just didn't look comfortable. The maintenance and upkeep look good. The staff was outgoing. We went through memory care. People were getting ready for supper, and stuff like that. Everybody was very cordial. The dining area was nice, but we didn't eat or anything like that. They all were sitting there waiting for their meal, so they were anxiously watching TV, waiting for their meal.

The Gardens at Barry Road was really nice. I like the setting of it and the location. It was a good visit. I didn't stay too long because I was just trying to check on some things for my friend. They were friendly and knowledgeable of what they were doing. The place was really clean, and I liked the tour. I like the entry coming in and the whole layout. I like the way it was set up because it was pleasant to look out. They had a van and a gym, but I don't know about the salon.

The Gardens at Barry Road, Kansas City was really nice, the people were all really helpful, and the place looks nice. Moving my mother in did not exactly go as I would like. We can only do one trip, and I forgot the HDMI cable to her TV; she's not going to know how to hook it up, and no one else is going to hook it up for her. She's gonna have to go without a TV so I was really dissatisfied that I can only enter the building at one time. Then when I brought my mom to move her there, they won't even let me take her to her room because they don't allow visitors. I'm not even visiting; I'm bringing my mom here to live but I still wasn't allowed in. I get the whole COVID thing but it doesn't make sense that I can take her stuff to her room, but I can't take her to her room so she was crying. I'm taking her to live there for the first time. She has memory issues, and needs to be comforted that it's gonna be okay. She's in a shared room; she has a companion. It's not an older building; it was built about 10 years ago. It's nice, and they have a nice courtyard. The experience was heart-breaking; it was already a hard move to begin with. Also, their policy changed overnight; it was really weird that they told me she had to quarantine for 7-14 days at home, and she can't be at home that's why we're moving her there. I ended up having to pay a sitter which cost me $5,000 just for a week while she's on quarantine. She came from the hospital because of her issue, and they refused to take her outright unless she's quarantined. Then they called me right after we've hired the sitter that the policy has changed, but by then we've already wasted time.

My dad lived in the Gardens at Barry Road until he broke his hip. The facility is nice, the communication there was atrocious, and they weren't very consistent. I would speak highly of the nursing director, but the staff at night would tell me things that wouldn't be true. The room was very nice, but my dad said the food was OK. He didn't think it was great, but he didn't think it was terrible. It was not homemade; it was just reheated. However, it had beautiful surroundings, and it was very clean and well-maintained.

My friend is at The Gardens at Barry Road. Their service has been really excellent. They helped us immensely in getting through all the paperwork and getting things taken care of so we could move her in quickly. The staff has been really good. She's quite happy there, and she has settled into that pretty easily. Everything's going really good in there. We take care of the laundry ourselves, but they provide everything else. The place is immaculately clean. They have arts and crafts, TV time, and there are a lot of things to keep them preoccupied. They're working therapy in with things that they like to do. Their program is pretty excellent.
