Stoney River Assisted Living & Memory Care is a very nice facility. It looks like the care is very good, so it is a contender. The apartments were very nice. They showed us the common rooms and everything that would pertain to a memory care facility such as community rooms, kitchens, sitting rooms, information rooms, and a library. The outdoor facility was probably better than the other place just because they had a courtyard where residents could walk in and not have to worry about leaving the building.

My father has moved into Stoney River Assisted Living & Memory Care. He's in memory care at the moment. He is a high-functioning dementia patient. They're going to do the evaluation as to whether or not he's eligible, based on their recommendations, to potentially move him to assisted care instead. At the moment, we are kind of protecting him by keeping him in the memory care area. They were very cognizant of the financial situation that we were in at the time and worked to assist me in getting the best financial plan set up for what kind of room he would be in, what facilities or what processes he was going to need to have available to him, and different services. I was under the time gun because of exigent circumstances that I'm dealing with at the moment, and they were able to get the process done very quickly. They made me very happy with that process. The staff was very friendly and very helpful, kind of bent over backward, gave me a lot of good information, gave me some booklets on dementia that were very helpful to me, and just assisted with the process as I needed it. I had my dad have lunch right off the bat and asked him about it and he said it was great. The other seniors seemed to be eating it perfectly fine, and it smelled good when I walked through it. It was spotless. The whole facility was in very good repair. There were some things that I would like to see a little bit easier ingress and egress for family members getting in and out, but they have to lock the memory care down because you can't let the people leave on their own. That would be the only thing that would be a nice technological upgrade for them because some of the other facilities that I've looked at had fobs that you could get in and out of the facility with, so you didn't have to wait for a staff member to open the doors for you. The cleanliness was incredible. It's a multimillion-dollar obvious building. It's very well maintained. The grounds were very nice. You didn't see weeds in the grass. All the places that they gave me to look at were highly well kept up. They were showing me different things that they could do. I was very comfortable with what I saw. They had a salon. There's plenty of ability for somebody to be able to go get their haircut or their hair styled or whatever else that they needed to do. The staff helped me out. That was probably one of the biggest things when a family needs to be able to deal with the different issues that come up. We have to deal with a lot of emotions at that point. It does take a lot of stress off of us.

Stoney River is a nice facility. My mother's room is nice and has a nice view. They have different wings, and each wing has a room with a fireplace and relaxing couches. They have common rooms for them to do different activities. They have a courtyard and in the summertime they're able to go out in the gardens and just enjoy it, or they can work if they want. It's a little less expensive than the other places we looked at. They have different food menus every day that seem pretty good.

My mom has been a resident of Stoney River Assisted Living & Memory Care for a couple of months now. It's a very nice place with lots of natural light, and it's very big and spacious. The showers are also very nice because there's no way to trip or fall. They also let my mother have jobs to do, which is really helpful because it keeps her happy. They let her like vacuum the floor or set the table, and so she's feeling useful and productive. That's one of the nicest features of that community. They have activities for the residents and they do post them, but they don’t really run on schedule in the memory care unit. When activities are about to begin, they just collect whoever wants to participate, because people like my mom can't follow a clock or calendar anymore. The director of nursing is really nice. The aides and people in charge of medications are very busy so they don't really approach the family that much. She has a studio unit with a private bedroom and a bathroom and toilet, and all the bathrooms have showers. They have a courtyard that's fully surrounded by the building, so they can't wander off somehow. And they can go outside whenever they want to, and they don't have to wait for staff members who might be busy with another resident. My mom goes out there on a regular basis and gardens. They have a piano for whoever wants to play music, and they have activities like games and coloring books that are out in the bookshelves all the time. They also have another place where they can go out to with rocking chairs, and they have TV in a couple different locations as well as fireplaces. They have a real kitchen setup for times when they bake with the residents. They also have activity directors that come by and arrange groups. I've eaten there, and they're good meals. My father thinks they're on the small side, but there's plenty of calories for people who aren't active. They also provide snacks for the residents. They're also competitively priced with the other places in the area.
