I liked The Oaks. The staff was friendly. The meals smelled good. I liked the setup of the rooms. I saw both independent and memory care. I liked the fact that the memory care was separate and in a locked-down facility, and that they had their own dining hall. I loved the fact that The Oaks was all in one building. The independent living was in that same spot, so they didn't have to walk across the parking lot or anything like that to get to the other building. The staff during the tour was very, very sweet, answered all of my questions, and was extremely helpful. The only problem that we had with The Oaks is that they didn't provide any of the stuff that needed to go in the room for the memory center. That's the deciding factor. The rooms were clean and they were a good size. They had shower curtains and that kind of thing, but they didn't provide beds or dressers or any of that kind of stuff. The dining area was clean, and the food smelled good, and I saw samples of it, but I didn't have any. There were lots of choices. It was a little cold the day we went, so we didn't go outside, but there's a nice outdoor space that is gated in the memory center, so they can't get out completely. There's a nice path that goes around the entire building for the independent people.

We chose here for Mom because my father is in the independent living. He can just go down and visit. My father hates the food there. My mother is in a very small shared room with somebody else. Right now, because of COVID, they're not happy just staying in the room. They would let me sit with my mom and they would open a screen between us. She wasn't happy about being isolated and says she feels like she's in a prison, but everybody feels that way right now. The only activity they have going on is bingo once a week and everybody plays one to a table. The staff is adequate. A lot of the time it would be 10:00 in the morning and she still wouldn't be up and dressed yet or had her morning pills. We're actually not satisfied with her care in the memory section. We picked out this place because it covers all levels of care and also provides doctors' appointments. However, because of COVID, they don't have transportation to doctors. Instead, a doctor comes to see her.
