The hallways at Brookdale Midland were smaller than what my dad was looking for. It was a nice facility, but he uses a walker. He needed wider hallways. The room had a very small refrigerator. They had classified him as memory care when they went and assessed him, so all I saw was the memory care. I didn't see the assisted living. He has some early age dementia, but he's very independent still. He can do a lot of things for himself. The staff during the tour was nice, but she was new and didn't have the experience. I asked a question, and she started hesitating. The director of the place (who was walking by) jumped right in and started talking with me. I saw some sitting aerobics going on. There were people playing cards. They had a lot of stuff going on. They had a thing on the wall that showed the daily activities that were available for folks to attend. They had a courtyard.

Brookdale Midland was pleasant and the staff was very helpful. We could tell that they took lots of precautions to make it comfortable for families and we were satisfied with all the offerings they had in the memory care. The rooms were maybe a little bit small, but they had lots of other common rooms and pleasant places for their residents. We were able to view the activities calendar and that looked quite good too. I believe they had regular pet therapy once a week, exercises every day, brain games, and one on one activities if needed, but also activities as a group. We saw people doing some kind of drawing or painting, so I'm satisfied that they find ways to engage people, not just park them in a corner.
