About This Community

We began our quest into senior living because of our love for our beloved mother, Mary Bickford, whose needs became too great for us to manage. As we researched senior living options, we were shocked at our findings. The options offered too much or too little — none met her needs and nothing felt like home. Since we couldn't find what we wanted, we decided to create what we needed. Our main desire was to create a place that helped her achieve an equivalent peace and happiness that she had earlier in her life.

We understand that selecting a senior living community for your loved one is one of the toughest decisions that you will ever face. We will work with you to ensure that the transition is as easy and comfortable as possible. Whether your loved one is at home, in the hospital or even in another state, we can work with your hospital, insurance company, and doctor to make your difficult decision easier on you and your family. Aging can be difficult — but we've also seen the beauty in aging. Our mother's happiness inspired us. We created Bickford for her and now we're devoted to serving yours. Read the fine print. After a CNA care worker called me to tell me of my mom's passing. No one from administration reached out to give condolences or tell me the next steps. I had to call them and found out the daily full room rate would be charged until we had everything out of her room. The office manager told me the director would stop the December payment. But unfortunately the $8,900 was deducted. Telling me it will take up to 2 months to return funds. Care workers were great. Administrators brought down the star rating

Bickford of West Lansing was very, very nice and very pleasant. The problem was that their rates would constantly increase as my husband needed more and more care. The Alzheimer's section was not as nice as their assisted living, but they have lovely choices of food. They can eat à la carte for every meal if they want to, and that was naturally attractive to my husband, but I decided against it simply because of the fact that they were going to be increasing the rates by day as you get more care. I knew I was going in at a fairly high cost.

We were kind of leaning toward Bickford of West Lansing before we found the other place. But the other one was better in our price range and the rooms were a little bigger. We had the brochures, and we walked around the building. With Covid, we didn't really go in, we just looked through windows. I think we looked at both assisted living and memory care. The memory care was super tiny. The man we spoke with was very nice, knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating. It was the price range and the size of the room that made the difference. We just kind of peeked into the windows. We kind of could look into the great room that they had and it was really pretty. They had a Christmas tree, and it looked very clean and well kept. From what we could see through the windows, everything looked clean and neat.

When you visit any facility, be aware of how the staff interacts with the residents. My family knew that mom was loved and cared for every day. They came to the hospital during a recent stay, which warmed our hearts. Mom has passed and the staff has been nothing but professional, loving and supportive to our family.
