My wife was in Grand Village Assisted Living & Memory Care. They took care of her very well. She was fed well. I visited her every day. She was in memory care. She had a private room. She had a television and a hospital bed in there. They had a shower in another room because she couldn't get out of her wheelchair too well. The first couple of months she went to an exercise where they knocked this ball around to each other and so forth. They had a beauty salon. They had a minister come in, they had religious songs every week, and a pastor came in. They had a bus there and one time we went on a tour all around Grand Rapids and different places. She was in the facility under hospice care. It was the best. The staff was excellent. I ate with her sometimes and the food was excellent. The facility was good. The only thing I would complain about is when you go over there, you have to wait quite a while to get in. Somebody has to come to the door and let you in. When you want to leave, you got to wait until somebody comes and lets you out. I had to wait sometimes 10 to 15 minutes to get in. They had a good activities director. She had something going on every day, different things, cooking, taking a tour, or singing, and they had different people come in and sing. It was expensive like all of them.

My mom has been a resident for 3 1/2 years. 3 1/4 years in Assisted Living and 4 months in Memory Care. The building is beautiful inside and out, when you walk in it feels like “home”-not institutional looking. Common areas are furnished and decorated very tastefully. Individual rooms vary in size/price but they are all nicely furnished and you are free to personalize them to make your loved one feel at home. We’ve been blessed with consistent, dedicated care staff, which means they know the residents well. They are quick to notice when something is “off” with a resident. And for the residents to see familiar faces daily helps them emotionally. Staff is friendly and they truly care about the residents. There are plenty of activities available and the director encourages residents to get involved. They offer several events throughout the year for where families can join residents. Memory Care residents can often be found sitting outside on the porch chatting In the summer or doing a puzzle, coloring, etc around the big table. They also have opportunities to go on group outings (field trips) with Suzie, the Activities Director. My mom has been well cared for and happy since day one. The staff has also provides education opportunities, and emotional support for me as my mom transitioned from assisted living to Memory Care.

My mom has moved into Grand Village Assisted Living & Memory Care. I don't feel like the director is very professional, but I think the staff is good. Right away they wanted me to sign her up for hospice, which my mom did qualify for. That kind of means that their staff had to do less because they said hospice will come in and shower her and stuff like that. I've never dealt with this kind of issue before, so I don't know if that's typical, but she is there now. The other thing I don't like is that they make you sign up for ACH withdrawal, but I never got an invoice. All of a sudden, the money is out of the account, and I have no idea, like, no invoice. I'm supposed to get the first month rent free, but then they just took $5000 out. I'm going to email them and say, 'I want an invoice.' I feel like their security is good. It seems very clean, and the staff is good. I just didn't care for the way that the director handled the whole admission without telling me the amount until I already had my mom in there. I felt like that was wrong on her part. She wasn't very upfront, and I don't think they're professional. The everyday staff, like the nurses the young ladies that work with my mom, they're really good; I would give them a 5. I t's a nice building. It's relatively new. I don't think my mom has been participating in activities. They offer them, but she hasn't been doing them.

I toured Grand Village Assisted Living & Memory Care. I didn't meet many of the residents. It's very beautiful. The units were perfect as well. They seem to have a variety of units and levels of care. The staff, I think it was the director I spoke with, was very nice, helpful, and informative. I believe it's a newer facility, and the rooms were very well appointed. They're private rooms. They did mention that they have a chef on site. We didn't discuss the food that much. It was very well maintained as far as I could tell you, and the folks seemed happy to be there.
