We toured Sunrise of Rochester. It's a very nice place. It's very impressive as far as the exterior looks. The activities that took place while we were there didn't particularly impress me. And by comparison, it was more expensive than some of the other units. The individual that was showing us around did not seem overly knowledgeable, but he did take care of the situation. He didn't impress me. The apartments were adequate. They were nothing spectacular, and it's pretty much up to the individual to furnish their own room. The furniture that they provide almost looks like it comes from goodwill. I wasn't impressed with it. I wasn't overly impressed with what we saw.

I visited both assisted and memory care at Sunrise of Rochester. It was bad, dirty and it smelled. They took me up on the memory care floor and as soon as I got out of the elevator, I could smell urine. Then they showed me a room for the assisted living and this is what I got out of it. I could be wrong, but she says, "We do have a room available, it's not ready yet, but we'll show it to you." I got the feeling that whoever lived there, they must have passed away because some of their belongings were still in there. It was not clean. The interior has not been well maintained on an overall basis. There's a lot of old furniture, and I don't care about old furniture as much as it was broken-down furniture. The staff was nice enough. They need to remodel it and bring it up to date. They need a staff that pays attention to the residents, and I say this because when I got off on the memory care floor, in this one little cove where they had some living room furniture, there were three or four residents just hanging out there, not supervised, kind of making a mess of things, while there were three or four employees behind the desk, sitting and talking. Their job isn't to sit and talk, it's to care for the residents. I just felt like it was kind of that way, like, "We're going to let them do whatever they want to do while we just sit and chat." It was not a place I would want to put a loved one. The dining area was outdated and messy. The third floor was for memory care. I think the first and second floors might have been assisted living.

I visited Sunrise of Rochester. I thought it was a nice facility, and a great location walking wise in downtown Rochester, I thought that was positive. I'm really concerned about my mother because she's a flight risk, so I didn't think their memory care containment was strong enough to keep my mother in. I liked the location best of all in downtown Rochester. It has a small contained yard and built in a much larger area where you didn't feel like you're being restrained. The staff member was very good, maybe not quite as knowledgeable, but still very friendly and courteous, and then I was able to speak about most of the issues we were concerned about. I think the façade was well suited for their target market.
