The only place I visited was the HarborChase of South Portland. The staff there was friendly and welcoming. They showed me around. The only reason we didn't choose it was because it was brand new, and we needed somebody to be there for my father daily because of his issues that he had. They actually showed me the memory care, which I didn't want that at first because he wasn't a threat or anything like that. He just needed to have somebody check on him. He can dress himself and all that stuff; that's why we wanted more of an assisted, instead of more like a nursing home (which is what the memory care is to me). I just kind of walked through, and there were just barely a few people there. The staff showed me two or three places in there where they could eat, and they were all really nice places. They have activities and stuff like that daily.

My husband is in the HarborChase of South Portland. It just opened. It's a brand new facility, it's very nice, it's a lovely facility, and I've been very happy with the staff. They've been very open and warm with me which is good. They're great. We had Thanksgiving dinner there, it was nice.
They have activities, they have all kinds of stuff like that. My husband doesn't participate too much because he is in the very deep stages of Alzheimer's, and they're very accommodating to him. They try very hard to get him interacting, but he's just not there and that's not good. They do have an outdoor area. They have assisted living, a mild dementia unit, and they have a memory care unit. I've only been to the memory unit. Looking at it outside, it's a beautiful facility, his part is nice, so I'm assuming the rest of it is well. He has a studio apartment, it does not have a kitchen, which he doesn't need. He has a bed and two chairs, it has ample closet space and an ample bathroom.
