If you value your loved one’s well being at all, do not send them to Story Point. To be clear, this is a gorgeous facility, and Deb has a wonderful sales pitch that makes it sound like your loved one will be well cared for, stimulated with activities, and most of all safe. We first moved my grandmother in back in February. The issues started after a couple weeks, with Eduardo on second shift saying she required too much attention. She was working with PT and OT on safely walking and getting up and down herself. We made a few complaints about her not getting bathed regularly, and then after a few more weeks were told we either needed to start paying 2K more a month or move her to their new memory care unit. Another sales job by Deb, we were told there was a 4-1 patient/aide ratio, the staff was trained to assist her better, and they would make sure she participated in more activities to keep her mind sharp. Shortly after moving her to memory care, PT didn’t want to treat her anymore because she “wasn’t retaining what they taught her”. This, coupled with our further complaints that her basic hygiene wasn’t being taken care of, the facility recommended we call in hospice. Hospice denied her because she was too healthy for their services. At this point, Story Point discharged her from all therapies in an effort to get Medicare to cover hospice services, so hospice could take care of her hygiene needs. For four weeks, she received no therapies, which did cause her to deteriorate enough that hospice ended up accepting her. Shortly after this, the director of the facility called and said we needed to look for somewhere else for her to stay. We finally got her out of the facility, so I feel comfortable leaving this review. My grandma was mishandled by aides who didn’t know how to appropriately transfer her. She was left in bed on a routine basis in soiled sheets, and upon getting up did not have her bathroom needs attended to. I’ve watched aides grab her by the hands and pull up this 91 year old woman with all their body weight. I’ve watched them give her a sponge bath on the toilet instead of taking her to the shower. We’ve asked for aides to help her to the bathroom and been told no. We’ve pulled the emergency cord for help in the bathroom and no one ever came. I, personally, have spent 6-7 hour stretches with her as a means of monitoring her care, and no aides have ever come to check on her. She’s not taken to activities and is routinely left in a transport chair in her room alone for hours on end. She deteriorated mentally and physically during her time at this facility. I cannot stress enough how apathetic the aides are toward the well being of their residents. I’ve worked retail jobs in high school that required more training than it takes to be a glorified babysitter at this facility. These people are not to be trusted and if this review saves one person from going through the same thing my grandma and family have been through, I will have made some good out of this horrendous situation.

Story Point was so informative and clear on exactly what to expect. I couldn’t have had a better experience.
