We transferred my grandmother to the memory care unit of Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center a couple of months ago. The staff is extremely caring. They individualized her care and put her first.
They have an activity center and activity assistants in the memory care unit, with activities directed at people with dementia. So, it gets them involved and it keeps them out of their rooms. My grandmother, she's rarely in her room now. She found some friends, so she's active socially there now. I know when they do the snacks and the coffee, she loves sitting with a couple of other ladies, having coffee and cookies, and they would kind of gossip as friends do.
She has a shared room but there's plenty of room to be able to have her bed and a recliner, and then of course a dresser for her clothes and a television. So, it's kind of like a small efficiency apartment. They have a restroom in the room. Even though it's small, there's still plenty of room to put what she needs.
The office manager who handles the financial side has been very difficult to deal with. When you're putting your family member in an Alzheimer's unit, that's hard enough, much less having to deal with someone who's not very kind at times. Besides the office manager, the staff is very kind. The administrator, I have spoken to him before, and he was extremely kind. I think they need to work on some customer service education for that particular occupation of the business office, and understand how to handle people who are in this situation for the first time. Most people don't understand how Medicaid and Medicare work and they need guidance.
