My mom is at Trail Creek Place. We are fine with it. The amenities are nice. The food is OK, but there is a big turnover in staff. My mom is in the memory care over there. Security is very good. You have to buzz in, you can't get in without someone asking you the Covid questions, so they're really good about that. Some of the residents are mobile enough that they can try to open the door, but there's a lot of alarm and you can't get out without somebody noticing, so the security is pretty good.
For the staff that has been there since Mom has been there, they're good. They have an activities director that I like. She's very, very nice, and she helps me. She does Zoom calls with Mom for me, so I can see Mom and talk to her through the Covid things. She's really good. She has been there the whole time. I like her a lot. As far as the other people, I can't say much because the turnover has been so high, and I don't live in Michigan City, so I can't go there every day to see her.
My mom's room is big and it's very nice. She has her own bathroom. It's a large bathroom with a sink and a toilet. There's plenty of room for her wheelchair. The food is pretty good. She is kind of particular with what she eats. I've asked for different things for her to eat because she doesn't like tomatoes, and she has trouble chewing like chicken patties and things like that, so the food is OK.
The activities are good. My mom sits down and participates when they go and get her. They play bingo, they throw the balloons back and forth, and they have music. The activities are good for her. She's got lots and lots of prizes, so I know she's participating.
I don't know a lot of the people that are there now since they have a new director, and we haven't been able to get in. I want to say that the assisted living portion has had a lot of covid cases. My mom did get Covid at the very beginning and she pulled through miraculously, but that memory care facility has not had very many Covid cases at all. It's always zero, so that's good. However, there's not as many staff as it used to be.

Trail Creek Place was very welcoming and homey. My issue with it is cost and that there were very few males and a lot of women. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were more like home, not like a hospital room, but I don't have nearly $7,000 to spend. I worked at nursing homes all of my nursing career, and I have nothing negative to say about them. They're excellent, give excellent care, and in compliance with most things. I just don't have unlimited funds which is not the problem of the community. They had great activities and great things to offer.

I had visited and it was nice, but it was expensive. I don’t know anything about the staff. Other than the way it looks, I can’t say much about it. It was out of my mother’s price range. It was neat and pretty. The person I talked to was very friendly. She answered all my questions well and gave me time.
