Kesslerwood Place was nice. The apartments that they offered were very nice as well. The staff was nice. It's clean, and the place was bright. It just didn't feel like a nursing home. They had a nurse there that knew everybody's birthday, so she'd been there a while, and had a good relationship with them, so that was nice to see. The staff who gave me the tour was very friendly and very informative. She gave me the tour of basically all the rooms there as far as the dining room and the library. They had a really nice staircase there, and the lobby was inviting. She gave a nice little pamphlet for all the details about the facility, and at the end they gave me a pumpkin pie for visiting. Their dining area looked very elaborate. I saw the food on the menu, and it looked like it was very good quality food. It's very nice on the outside, and on the inside they were very warm and friendly. If it was affordable my mom would be there.
Kesslerwood Place was a great facility, and it was clean. The staff was nice, and they have adequate staff. The rooms were a little small, but they were more than adequate for what was needed. The residents seemed that they enjoyed it there. I haven't tried the food, but everything was cooked in-house, nothing was brought in pre-prepared. The facility was super clean in there.
In memory care, they have something planned every day for them from 10:30 in the morning till 6:00 at night. They can take part in any of the activities or all the activities. They have a big courtyard that's fenced, a coffee bar, and a greeting area where you can come visit your family, have coffee or tea, or whatever you want.
My husband is in Kesslerwood Place for respite. It's very clean and everyone is very friendly, they're very attentive. I like that they have lots of activities for their guests, and the rooms are set up pretty well. Everyone that I had interaction with was very nice and they gave lots of information. So I just have good things to say about them. His room is gorgeous, he loves it and I like it. His bed is nice. I got him a television for his room, but when he got there they already had one. It's very spacious. It was a room with a kitchenette that was nice and clean. He said the food was really good. The value for the money is good and the location is perfect.
Kesslerwood Place seemed to be very welcoming, and it's a nice facility. The staff engages the residents. They have activities and outings. So far, we're very pleased. My dad's room has a window that looks out on a yard with flower beds. It got its own bath, fridge, and kind of a kitchenette. It's more of a studio with a kitchenette.
They have exercises, and they take residents out into the yard. So far when I've been in, they've been doing things like painting, trivia games or bingo. One day they went on a field trip downtown in a bus.
Meals are served at tables in a group area. They have a group living room kind of area. Medications are given to them by the staff.
In memory care, the residents can't access the outside on their own. They have to be taken out. Some places have a courtyard area that's available. The residents can simply walk out or wheel themselves out, but this is a locked unit; the staff takes them out. That's not a huge deal to me because they do take them out, but my dad is a roamer.
It has everything he needs, which was hard to find. I guess he gets some oxygen, and he needs a 2-person assist; those kinds of things are hard to find in one place.
The food looks adequate. It doesn't look gourmet, but it was OK. I find their pricing to be very, very good. It's somewhat less than other places we've looked at.
Kesslerwood Place is a small community. The memory care is on the third floor, which is good. The only problem that we have with it is that if you hold the door down for 15 seconds, it would unlock. My mom would learn that and she would be gone. Also they didn't have a private room. They didn't have one available and we needed one right away. The staff members were very good. They're very informative and knowledgeable. The person who did the tour wasn't a staff member on that unit, but she knew all of the patients anyway. They're very good. They have a lot of activities out in their open areas. There is a lady who would like to move furniture around, so they have an area where she can rearrange the furniture. They also have a staff member that would sit and talk individually with the residents.
