HarborChase of Long Grove was a nice place. It's just going through the memory care was disturbing. Seeing people like that makes me think, "Is it like possible for my dad to get to this point?" That's what's so disturbing for me.
Overall, the place was very nice. The lady that I worked with was very, very nice, very warm, and very personable. I just jumped in and said that we'll definitely go with this one. I saw the assisted living and memory care. The staff showed us around different rooms, things that they have going on, a movie room, and an exercise room. Everything is all inclusive, which is very, very nice. They have a salon and a chapel. Both my husband and I were very impressed.

HarborChase of Long Grove is excellent. My wife has been there since June, and it's a beautiful new facility. The care is excellent and everything about it is really top notch, in my opinion. This by far impressed me the most, and the price is reasonable compared to the others.
It's a large two story building, rectangular in shape, and has several courtyards with trees, plants, and little bird caged feeders. As I understand, they have about 100 total residents, about 20 of which are memory care and 80 are assisted living. They have a capacity for another 20 also.
The memory care wing is very nice, very spacious, and spread out. The rooms are very nice, and everyone has their own separate bedroom. Each has a halfway decent view, either of the interior courtyard or the outside. Not only that, they have a really fine dining room where there's a cocktail lounge, which has impressed me a lot. Last night, I picked my wife up, went through a couple doors; then we were in the cocktail lounge having dinner and drinks.
When I first walked into the place six weeks ago, it struck me like a nice small hotel. You walk in the lobby, and it is spacious. There's a fireplace back there with tables and chairs gathered around. People are sitting around talking, and there's a little donut shop thing off to the side. It's really great. I would highly recommend it. I give it five stars plus. It's only 15 minutes from my house, so I stop in every day and chit chat with the other memory care people and my wife. They take good care of her, and I really like it a lot.
The staff has just been very good. There's always at least one on duty nurse on the floor during the day and at night (because I'm there sometimes in the evening). We got her clothes, a bed, and we're bringing in the furniture (which is being delivered there this week). Her room there will look very similar to her bedroom here at home.
They have a great chef, and the food is excellent. The drinks are great. I had a scotch whiskey and whatever I needed, they've got it for me. They're very courteous. They've got a schedule of activities for the month. Every day they have a list of activities that some of the memory care people can take part in; but those that can't, they still have activities. Yesterday was really nice day here, so they were all outside in the atrium, enjoying the sunshine, the adventures out there, and saw the trees and flowers.

We chose HarborChase for my mom because of the location. They didn't have any agency nurses. I like the greetings and the services that were provided, I liked how they were handling the safety and concerns around Covid and Covid visits, those are the key reasons. I was able to utilize the same services from the previous place my mother was at such as the automated form prescription medication and I was able to use the same hospice care provider that she was with prior so it made the transition very seamless.
The rooms were very pleasant and clean. They provided me a furnished room all set up. The people that I met with including the sales, the executive management, I met 3 of the nurses and I met 2 of the aides and the experience was wonderful thus far. I would consider the room large for her circumstances, a bed, 2 chairs, dresser, TV, very open spaced bathroom, easily accessible with wheelchair, plenty of room for other medical equipment like crutches and things of that nature, separate closet for personal belongings and it's ample storage. I was visiting there yesterday and my mother is not really able to articulate but she is eating. The first day she went I was told that she enjoyed the food, so I don't have a lot of experience with it thus far. Both times I went I was able to actually physically being inside to help her move and get situated. The memory care residents were being told a story in a group setting and there was music being played, so out of the 2 times I was there the memory care folks were being attended to. And what I call entertainment they weren't in their rooms, they weren't sitting all alone, they were in a group setting being communicated and told this particular case a Hanukkah story. And the other case there was just somebody playing a CD and they're listening to nice classical music.
The facility is really beautiful, clean, spread out, airy, very bright, bright light coming in a lot of windows. The "visiting windows" for future visits because of Covid I think were under cover which is nice, so if it's raining or snowing, we still have access to windows to do visits. I have a lot of experience because my mother and father were both in memory care for 3 years. My dad died last week and I'm actually moving my mother in this place I think with improved services and less cost than I was paying before.

My mom moved into the HarborChase of Long Grove. We chose it for what they have to offer, because my aunt could move there too, and the price. The staff is very friendly, they have a lot to offer, and they have nursing 24/7 to give her medications. The food is good, I ate there three times. Her room is big, and she has her own private bath. I thought it was a good price for what you get. The place is very pretty, nice looking, beautiful, and clean. They have a gym where they do PT and exercise, and they have outdoor walking areas.

My friend is now at HarborChase of Long Grove, and it's spectacular and extremely well staffed. There is an assisted living section and 2 dementia floors, one for mild dementia issues and the other one for more pronounced issues. The rooms all have individual bathrooms, and they're lovely. She has more like a studio apartment than a room. There are activities going on all the time, and they take the residents who are in memory care to all of these activities. They have an extensive physical therapy and occupational therapy program, and their price point is $2000 to $3000 less than a lot of other comparable facilities. The food is wonderful, and it's not a bunch of carbs. It's really well balanced. They have a chef who comes and talks to all the residents at almost every meal to find out what they like and how they're enjoying it. It's like being in a fancy restaurant. It's just lovely.

Our experience having my spouse in HarborChase of Long Grove has been very good. It's a memory care and assisted living community. It's 4 patients per caregiver and they have a schedule every day. The activities vary but they have a monthly calendar up and there are things planned out day by day. They're very open to suggestions for care. For example, I requested that he be taken to the gym a couple of times a week since he's mobile, and they were very open to that. I would rate them a 4 only because we've had a couple of housekeeping issues, but that's the only issue we've had with them. I always try to walk him outside whenever I was there because they have a couple of gardens and walking paths that you can use.
