We chose Perry Lutheran Homes - King's Gardens Campus for my mother-in-law. We like the smaller units for memory care. They had a very nice memory care setup. The staff seemed very friendly, and the residents there seemed very engaged with each other and with the staff. They were all very nice and welcoming and interacted very well with the residents. It's an older building, but they've made it very home-like within each of the units. Especially in the memory care areas, they've set up some rooms for the residents to do different activities and things, which is very nice. They have salon services, a little garden area, some exercise equipment, a TV area, and a kitchen/living room area.

The care conference team warmly responded to my concerns regarding my friend Kathy: participation in activities, was she eating well, was she active in walking and socializing with other staff and residents. I was happy to hear Essie cleaned her sofa and chair and Kathy has enough clothes. It was a good, welcoming meeting! Most of all, I scheduled a visit with Kathy today and was very happy with her smile, and easy conversation. This was evidence of the care that she was receiving: love, nurturing, and relationships of the staff. Thank you for letting me be with Kathy and so quickly after the conference meeting. I have always felt Kathy has received excellent care, from the staff always responding to personal hygiene, encouraging her to participate in activities, helping her dress, and assisting me with Kathy’s stuff in her walker. I have always been greeted on the unit with a smile and the staffs willingness to answer any questions regarding her care. Her room is always clean and tidy, as is her clothing. I have confidence that she is well taken care when we are not able to see her. I am thankful for all of you. Nancy

The Perry Lutheran Homes staff is incredibly caring, kind and loving to not only my Dad, but to my entire family. I feel very confident that Dad is getting the best care available. The music program is outstanding! Dad can hear live music in his unit and he also has his own personal iPod to listen to his individualized playlist.

When we were informed by our Father's previous facility that he needed to be moved to a Memory Locked facility and a couple of facilities in Perry were recommended. Being from Des Moines, we wanted to make sure we looked at all local facilities; including the two in Perry. When my brother and I visited Perry Lutheran Homes for the first time, we were pleasantly pleased with the facility's cleanliness, warmth, room size, activity stations and staff. It felt like home. We moved our Father there in January of 2020 to the Memory Care Unit and he immediately looked content and happy. An added bonus was having the Hall Cat (Miss P) walk into our Father's room and jump up on his lap. We lost out Mother in June 2019 and she was definitely a cat lover her whole life; therefore, it was comforting to all of us. Unfortunately, when the COVID-19 Virus stuck and for safety purposes, the facility had to close and we've not been able to visit since mid March. However, I can honestly say that I am VERY happy with the care the my Father is receiving and the staff have been so wonderful answering phone calls and organizing online calls with all of us. Our Father looks and sounds great, healthy and at peace. We could not ask for more!
