Sunrise at Buckhead seemed good, though the place seemed a little bit old. The decor maybe needed a little bit of refreshing, but it seems they're in the middle of doing that. The person that was showing me around was very, very nice. I saw a bare room with nothing in it, but it was fine. The facility was clean. The room I saw needed to be done up, but maybe that was being done. It wasn't the most inspiring room in the world. The size was good enough. I was impressed with the fact that they have a lot less people on the floor than where my mom is right now. They had rooms that families could visit.

I visited Sunrise at Buckhead. I saw the whole facility but I was interested in memory care. Just walking in from the foyer is nice. You walk in on the first floor and it's very spacious. I noticed a lot of staff, but the appearance was nice, really clean, bright, and very well kept. I talked to the director of sales. I told her about dad's situation and that I'm just kind of looking trying to get ahead of things. She understood and she gave me some good insight. She showed me the options that they have and explained the procedures at that location and how they could assist dad if we end up going there. We had a tour of the facility and the option of the different rooms that they offer and she introduced the staff to me as we met them along the tour. It was nice. They have different activities and what I observed was that an activities coordinator was setting up some music for some of the memory care patients. She showed me all the things that they're able to do, where they just lounge and watch television or play some interactive games. For the most part in that time of day, a lot of them were just kind of relaxing and just trying to enjoy the afternoon. The director of sales was very detailed in how she explained everything. I liked what I saw. She was upfront initially and showed me the price points for the units there. It was a pleasant experience. I was pleasantly surprised. She was very cordial and as we walked around, she introduced me to any staff that we happened to bump into and explained what they did there and what their role was. She was a very good tour guide. There's a portion of the first floor that was under construction. They're remodeling a part of it. Other than that, it was still very well kept, very well lit, and clean. I didn't notice anything that looked to be out of order in any way.

The grounds at Sunrise at Buckhead were beautiful, and the facility was nice, although it looked a little bit older. It's very cozy because everything's a little bit smaller. The rooms are small, and the areas where they sit are small, so there are not a lot of places for them to spread out. There are just a couple of little areas for them to be. I did not like that the memory care was up on the third floor because in an emergency, my first thought was how do you herd them, since memory care patients are used to their routines. When you take them out of their routines, that tends to cause them great stress, chaos, and panic, as I have experienced with my ex-husband. When you have a whole unit of those whom you're trying to herd downstairs in an emergency, especially if they're not completely ambulatory, that doesn't seem like the safest place for them. That made me a little nervous. It probably is fine because emergencies don't happen very often, but it was a concern of mine, thinking of how they would get him down in an emergency without upsetting him. I like that they have places where you have to stop and check in to get in and out of the building for memory care. I felt like having the assisted living side locked in was a little bit overkill, but I understand that different people have different needs and different places have different things. The facility and the campus were very nice and a little cozy, so everything was closer together and smaller. It goes up instead of sprawling. It is probably not my cup of tea personally, because I feel like everything was just too close together. He likes to be able to have his own space, too, and I was afraid that might make it a little too uncomfortable for him. The staff there was great, though.
