My dad stayed at Marshall Pines for one week. They were wonderful with my dad. They took very good care of him, even as sick as he was. I can't thank them enough for doing everything they did for my dad to make him so comfortable and feel loved. Even though he wasn't even aware of his surroundings at all, they still treated him like family. One thing that I loved the most about their facility was how it was laid out in a circle. It was perfect for patients who have Alzheimer's or dementia. No matter where they walked, they still ended up in the same spot. There were lots of chairs where they could sit. They had all kinds of activities for them. All the patients seemed to interact with each other like family. My dad had to share a room with another patient. It was a little outdated, but the room itself was nice. They had a pool table, arts and crafts, a beautician, and a sensory room that helped calm them down. They had a putting area in the middle part of the outside that was surrounded by the building. They helped other patients or interact with other patients. They kept them busy.

I toured Marshall Pines, and I liked it very much. It was very clean, and I liked the personnel that we met. We didn't go into details, but they play a lot of games and things to simulate the brain. They also do crafts and things like that. They have a beautiful courtyard, where the residents plant the flowers and take care of them. The courtyard is really pretty.

When we walked into Marshall Pines, it didn't smell exactly clean. It was also pretty small, so we just kind of already knew it's not for us. We saw a studio room and a 1-bedroom. They were very nice, actually. They have a common room and gardens. It just seems smaller for me. It's just not as spread out, and I didn't like the proximity to the street. When you turn in, it's just right there right away. It doesn't go back, so you could easily see if somebody got out in the street. I didn't really like that either. If you didn't want what they made for dinner, you could get something else more basic, like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or things like that. It was pretty nice. You could tell they had done a nice job. Maybe it's the budget constraints or something, but it's just smaller. It's just not what we were looking for.

I visited Marshall Pines before Covid. I was in there two different times, and we saw a lot of different things. I didn't see an actual apartment, but we were inside the building and toured it a little bit. We also spoke with the administrative staff. At the time, it was not what we were looking for because it was more like a nursing home and we didn't think we needed that. It was very nice and clean. The people were great, but it wasn't a good fit for us. I don't remember about their activities. It has been almost a year since I was there. It was very nice, it was clean, and it had no smell.

There were times where we did not know which way to turn or understand the different phases our loved one was going through. However, at every turn we were comforted, encouraged, loved on and treated as team members in our father’s care. One of those key persons to show that level of compassion is Mrs. Kimberly M., a dedicated and very knowledgeable Director who holds people above process and in high esteem. She knows each of the residents personally and does everything in her power to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect in their home. I loved the fact that there was no pressure to allow my father to roam throughout the facility day or night because the security is solid and safety is a number one priority. The support staff at Marshall Pines take a personal interest in ensuring each resident receives top quality assistance with their activities of daily living and they take the time to learn each resident’s specific needs to make sure they are met. I can’t say enough about people like Carol, T-Berry, Shicara, Mary, Courtney and Kenny. Our father received the best care in Augusta right through to the end of his life and afterwards. We are so grateful for the time he spent at Marshall Pines and the sweet memories he experienced with all who touched his life. In God’s Love and Grace, The Carroll Family

Overall, Marshall Pines Alzheimer's Special Care Center was very nice and only two years old, so it still looked new. The staff was very well trained. The rooms were fairly spacious. The furniture was in very good condition, and there wasn't a smell when you walk into the place. It's like walking into a high-end hotel. What struck me was that the staff seemed very attentive to the residents. We came during a special celebration, so there was someone in the cafeteria singing in costumes. Their regular activities were ones that involve their physical, cognitive, and emotional health. We're looking to be able to manage Alzheimer's without medicating or locking them down to a limited area.

Marshall Pines Alzheimer's Special Care Center was excellent and we liked it a whole lot. It's new and nice than other facilities. It didn't have a separate locked area and it was big. We liked everything about it, but for the price, the rooms are on the small side, which is the only negative. What's wonderful about it is they have motion detectors in the room and they go off if anyone gets out of the bed. They also have better staff to patient ratio, which is a plus. They're excellent and wonderful and have so much available for the patients as far as helping them stay oriented and stimulated. The menu looked wonderful.

Marshall Pines couldn’t take my mom because when they went to evaluate her, they said that she couldn’t get up on her own -- which is not right because she walks all the time. But they went to see her after she was medicated and she was asleep. It was a nice facility, and they seemed like they would take good care of her. When we talked to them, they sounded like they understood what my mom would like and said that they would take her, and we even put down a deposit. But then when the nurse went out there, she didn’t give my mom the benefit of going when she was alert and awake and able to do what they needed her to do. The rooms were nice, the dining hall was really nice, and the whole facility was very clean and well-kept. I have a friend whose mother is there, and she really likes the place.

Marshall Pines was a nice place. They just did not have private rooms right now, which is what we needed. The staff people were friendly. They took the time to show us around, even though we did not have an appointment. It’s very convenient. They should have more private rooms.

Marshall Pines Alzheimer's Special Care Center had a shared bathroom arrangement, and I didn't want that. It was not acceptable. Other than that, it's fine, and the staff was fine.
