I visited Marietta Life Center, for my friend. It was closed but they were free to walk outside, it was perfect for her. I like that it's a gated community, the residents couldn't get out. They've got beautiful wood floors, which was excellent. I was greeted properly, and the setup was nice and clean, but the one thing that immediately won me over was there was no odor. A lot of times you go in these places where we know that because of the incontinent care, they have an underlying odor. But there was none of that here, not at all and I was impressed with how clean it was. The person who gave the tour was the assistant director. So before the director even came out, the assistant director sat down and talked with me. He was telling me how long he's been working in this type of care and the staff. He had made me very comfortable before the director came out. The director was more into the financial details and once I was open and honest with him, his attitude was great. I was very pleased. If they take them out, she would be secure because to get out the gate you'd need a code, and even to get out of the front door you'd need a code. I could walk in, but I could not go out.

My experience with Marietta Life Center was absolutely horrible. First of all, it's dirty. No one was there to greet us. We actually opened the door, walked in, and it was a mess. We walked around, and still no one was there to greet us. I saw one resident eating. She was an elderly lady. She didn't know where the people were. From what I saw from the conditions of the rooms where some of the other residents were, it did not look good at all. It did not smell clean at all. The only good thing about that place was the outside. If I'm to describe it to other people, it was like a haunted house (and I'm not kidding). The doors are secure and you have to have a code to get out. My husband and I walked in, and we couldn't get out because no one was there. I walked around and I spoke through the door to someone who was in the kitchen. She gave us the code. I didn't even see her face. She gave us the code, and we got out and left. It was that bad. The residents were on their own. There was no staff at all except for the lady in the kitchen that I didn't see. The entryway had boxes, what looked like a broken down desk, and was in total disarray. If that was the office, that's horrible. It seemed spacious, but it was dirty. I walked around on my own and went down the hallway. I saw some of the residents in their rooms having breakfast. They looked at me like I was nuts, and I kept moving. I took some pictures of how it looked at the entrance. In the entrance where you walk in, you would think it would be neat and clean; it wasn't. I took a picture of a closet that was open; there's a dirty mop and dirty water in a bucket for the mop. The only staff I talked to, I said "I'm here for a tour." She said, "You're here for a tour? We didn't know we had a tour today. The person who does the tour is not here." She spoke to me through the door. She didn't come out to see me to tell me this. She just spoke through the door, and I said, "My husband and I are here. We can't get out. We need a code." She gave us a code for the front door, and she gave us a code for the gate." I don't know what she looks like. In terms of the food, I didn't taste anything. I just saw some of the residents were eating, and I know my mom wouldn't have eaten it. According to their signage outside, it says "luxury senior living" or something like that, and it's far from it. I wouldn't put my mother there, and I wouldn't put my enemy there.

The visit to Marietta Life Center was a good experience. The manager was very accommodating. I just could not see a room that my aunt would live in. They were also not dining in their dining room and people were eating in their rooms. I only saw the lobby and they have one "example" room to show, so without being able to see a guest room or anything else, it was a 4-star for me. They have lots of green spaces in the back, so that's good. They're on a busy street, but they didn't have enough parking. They have very limited parking for visitors. They were working on upgrading the green spaces, though, so that was really good. The staff was great. I only met one person and he was the manager. He's very accommodating and very nice.

I toured Marietta Life Center. I saw a couple of staff members working, the common area seemed a little crowded, but a lot of people were in wheelchairs, so it takes up more room. The room locations of the residents weren't laid out as well as I though they should be, but the cafeteria looked OK. The guy that gave me the tour seemed really nice and knowledgeable. The rooms were far away from the common area, and I know that's where she would hang out. The space seemed tighter. They had a common, shared shower, and they would have to leave their room to get a shower.
