The place is great!! I was nervous where to place my Dad. Roxanne and the staff have been great (Mary, Sonia).
Thank you for taking exceptional care of my father.
Thank you Thank You
I loved Peachtree Villa at Suwanee. It was great. However, my husband has an insulin pump, and when I talked to the nurse about it, they said it was too much of a liability. They know the old method of just sticking your finger and looking into your glucose levels and then giving you six or eight units. I loved the place and it was convenient and close by, but I'm disappointed that we can't get in. We were there right at lunchtime, so most of the residents were eating lunch. We didn't go into the dining room, we just looked through the window. They had the menu posted and it looked OK.
The staff showed us the facilities where they had the activities. It was very clean. She showed us all that they had, but the availability right then in our price range was gonna be a roommate room with a shared bath; the other rooms were out of our price range. You have to have a key to get in. They were not allowed to escape. We went out the courtyard and it was nice. They had two different courtyards that the residents could go to, and they had one that was available if you wanted to book it for the family, like if you had a party or something. Everybody that we talked to was excellent.
My dad has not yet moved into Peachtree Villa at Suwanee, but I've been up there many times. I've met mostly with the administrative staff. I've met the director and a couple of other managers that are around there. The place is clean and very bright, which is nice. There's several places I went that were not bright and cheery, but this is very bright and cheery. It has many courtyard areas where he can walk outside, and it's outdoors. There are lots of trees and grass and stuff outside that he can be in a secure area around, which is very nice. He would share a room, but it's a pretty large room. Everything was very clean. There were no odors or anything that were offensive. I've met a couple of residents who are staying there and it's obvious that it is a mental care facility. They were experiencing some issues, but they all seemed very happy and very friendly. I tried to make our conversations friendly, and they've been very open with me. They have been able to work with me in getting my dad there. Moving him from California to Georgia, there's a lot of challenges involved in that. I'll be getting there very late at night and they're going to work with me on that making some special hours and having special people on duty when I get there.
They have a great visiting policy. There are several areas where I can visit. I can visit him in his room, or of course, we can visit anywhere outside we wish. It's been very positive for me. The people have been very friendly and that's a big part of it. It's not so large that it feels like an institution. It is a large size and you got several corridors and things, but it's very homey, too. I wanted the best for my dad. I won't say this is the best. It's not the most expensive by any means, and it's not the most modern facility, but it's well kept up. I'm very happy with it. They were working for a price for me, so I'm very happy with that too.
Peachtree Villa at Suwanee was a smaller community and it was more intimate. I got the feeling that there would be a lot of individual attention for the resources they had, and for my dad if he was to go there. I like the design of the building, they're kind of windows all over, so they could always kind of see the residents. It was very open, it didn't feel like it would be confining, so I liked that. So I appreciated that about that facility.
Nikki H. assisted me in finding a new home for my mom in early November 2020. She took me on a virtual tour of this memory care facility and sent additional texts and videos of the resident-caregiver interactions. The facility looks clean, modern and well lit. I specifically liked that the building will allow mom to move relatively freely throughout, including open access to an inner courtyard. The rate is all inclusive, so no add on for medications or help with dressing. This was a big deal for me as some other facilities seemed to have extra charges for these. Like others, they will develop a specific care plan and have activities throughout the day to keep her active. The keep the activity groups small and like to ensure groups have similar interests or similar care levels. They stress their ability to provide 1:1 time with each resident. Sounds like the facility has 42 units and currently has 25 residents. They maintain a 1 caregiver to 6 resident ratio, which does not change at night. They also have a hydration focus, which is important for my mom. Mom likes to sleep in, and they said they were flexible with that and would ensure she had meals set aside. They noted that even though residents can have phones in their rooms, most don't do that as they have iPads and cordless phones that they make family calls with. In regards to medical, the nurse makes regular assessments of residents, a nurse practitioner comes to the site weekly and a doctor comes on site about every other month. They will of course work with your private doctor. And, they have a salon for hair and nails.
Mom is very happy there and my sisters and I are very pleased with the staff and the facility. She settled right in and enjoyed being able to walk around the facility and look at the pictures. She participates in exercise and craft activities. She is really happy with her room - it's roomy and has a nice view of the courtyard. The facility itself is well lit and nicely decorated. The staff and residents decorate for holidays. The caregiver-resident ratio is good, so she has individual care around the clock. The staff maintains a Facebook page with pictures and videos of the residents during different activities. When I call, they immediately take a phone or the iPad to her. If they can't take the call right then, they are excellent at returning the call when mom is ready. Mom has been really positive about the facility and and the staff. This is the second facility we have had her in, and Peachtree Villa is head and shoulders above the other facility. I'm happy with the level of medical oversight and they have a maintenance person on-site. I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of options. Brandy and other staff members keep me posted and up to date on any issues. They called right away when Mom had a minor fall. The staff is very good at communicating what is happening at the facility via phone, email and newsletters - and the Facebook page. I am very glad we chose Peachtree Villa!
