I visited Parkside Assisted Living & Memory Care. It was a positive experience. We were talking about memory care there and some Medicaid. It was very nice and very clean. I liked Laura, the director, very much. She's very nice and very transparent as to what was going on, and she was very informative. The rooms looked very nice. Maintenance and upkeep looked good to me.

We are going to have my mom go here. As you walk in, it's clean and nice, and the people are cordial. That place has also been recommended to me by a nurse friend that I have. They were good. They took us on a tour of the various floors. All of the floors have kind of a big great room area. There's a sofa, a big-screen TV, and an area where people can have access to a kitchen. That's also where they bring the food to serve it. There was a girl that was talking to the people. People were sitting around on sofas, they were on walkers and wheelchairs, and they were asking questions like, 'Who was the first man to land on the moon?' The people seemed to be engaged in a number of kinds of activities. The rooms were high ceilings, which made it feel like it was bigger. They all have 11-foot ceilings. There is an area set up as a living room, they got a sink and a microwave, and then they've got a bathroom. It's a fairly new building, probably four years old. They got a nice outside area where there's a pond; there were people sitting there. It's very accessible because Harbor Boulevard and Olean are both fairly popular roads. Of the ones that we looked at, it was the closest to where I live and where my sister lives. It's probably less than 10 miles for both of us because it's a 20-minute ride probably. I like the fact that it was handy and there is a lot of parking for visitors. Those were the few reasons why we chose it. They have two things there: They have assisted living neighborhood as they call them, and they have a memory care neighborhood. There are three floors. They had shared rooms that they showed us as their model rooms, and they had private rooms. We're picking a private room just because we don't have that element if you get along with the person and do they get along with you because you've got plenty of opportunities to go out and see people. The staff who gave me the tour was cordial and knowledgeable, and she followed up. It's clean and it seems like a pleasant atmosphere.
