We have chosen RiverView Senior Resort for my brother. When you walk into this facility, it will knock your socks off. It was gorgeous. The facility was almost brand new. It was very clean, with nice wide hallways and an elevator. It was more affordable than where he is now. I met some of the residents and they were very nice. I took my brother over there too, and he met one resident that was a veteran like he is. They had a veteran's wall, which was nice. They had a beautiful view of the river. They had choices for meals, so it was not the same meal for everybody. They had a choice of two meals at dinner. They also have a canteen type of setup that's open all day long, if you want a hamburger or grilled cheese or a drink. They had way more activities than where he is now. They had a gym, a movie theater, and a swimming pool. Their dining room was gorgeous. They had a menu actually on the dining room table for the residents to see what they were having that day. They had two choices for a 1-bedroom with a separate bathroom. They had a kitchenette in each room with a nice-sized refrigerator. If you have someone in memory care that you would like to have a caregiver with, they have a 2-bedroom in memory care, for someone to be there with the resident all the time. The staff who gave us the tour tried to give us choices. She told us that if my brother wanted a 1-bedroom and had a good friend that would want to be there, then it would cost less for the two of them to be in the 1-bedroom she gave us. She thinks outside the box, which is a good thing. She tried to give us different ways to lower the cost, to make his money go further.

We have chosen RiverView Senior Resort for my dad. When they had him in their mental healthcare ward, we were not happy at all with the service. First, there was a lot of confusion with his medication. And at one point I don't know what they gave him, but he ended up having to go to the hospital. My dad was just put in the mental healthcare section there until they could evaluate him to make sure that he could go into the other side. The staff seems to be very good on the business portion of it. But my dad being in an area where people don't even know their names, he was seeing the way residents are treated in the mental health ward. Like the staff is ignores them or doesn't feed them when they're supposed to be feeding them. They would be talking on their cellphones, and people would be asking for help, but they were not responding. Now that he's on the other care level, that's for people with mild dementia, he seems to be very happy. He said the food is fantastic and he really likes the people. He just keeps saying that there are serious issues on the mental health side. They're not paying attention to the people and that's very sad. While I was moving my dad out from the mental healthcare portion of the community, he was having an anxiety attack. There was an instruction given that if he starts having an anxiety attack, all we have to do is go to the nurse's station and ask for the pill to calm him down. But I couldn't get them to respond. I went to the nurses and explained, but hours later, there was still nothing. I wouldn't recommend anybody be put up there in the mental healthcare section. The staff would just sit around on their cellphones and hide from the camera so they wouldn't be seen. One time, one resident was having a stroke and he was on DNR, which means Do Not Resucitate. He couldn't understand why the staff wasn't doing anything to help the man and the man died. After it was all over with, one of them went and put his head in the man's chest to see if he was breathing, which I think is kind of crude. They should have used a stethoscope. My dad's room is very nice, and he has an excellent view of the river, which he likes. The place itself is very nice and kept up very clean. I wouldn’t say anything bad about them. The only thing they should improve on is that they should keep a close visual on what their employees are doing up there with the residents. They don’t even know their names. The business people that I have dealt with were very professional, it's just the staff that takes care of the residents' needs that I would rate two and a half stars.
